Aussie game charts: August 18-August 24

Mario Kart Wii shifts into fifth gear, enters the right lane and takes out the top spot.

Mario Kart Wii has returned to the top of the overall Australian game charts, according to data trackers GfK Australia. MKW has claimed the top spot ending Wii Fit’s two-week reign over the charts.

Last week's number one--Wii Fit--has dropped down into the second spot for the week of August 18-August 24. Refusing to budge from the previous week, the Wii Play bundle, which comes with a Wii Remote, remains at number three. Super Smash Bros and SingStar Amped have both climbed up one, with SSBB in at number four and SingStar Amped at number five. It's hard to say if the last week of the Olympics gave Segas' Beijing 2008 - The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games a boost, but that hasn't stopped the PlayStation 3 version of the game moving up four spots from the previous week, into sixth spot. The Xbox 360 version of Beijing 2008 also made it into the charts, though at the much lower position of number 10. Nintendo's Brain Training series is a regular contender in the charts, with Dr Kawashima's Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain? taking out the seventh place last week. The Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games duo made it into the lower half of the chart with the Nintendo DS version taking the lead at number eight and the Wii version in ninth place.
