Molyneux pondering three more Fables

Lionhead chief planning extension of the Xbox 360 series, as well as possible sports, driving games.

Fable II was one of the more notable games on show at the E3 Media & Business Summit this year. The game, which has taken 150 staff three years to develop, is almost ready to see the light of day, according to Lionhead chief Peter Molyneux.

Talking to GameTrailers, Molyneux divulged that Fable II, due for UK release on October 17 (October 21 in North America), will not be the end for the Xbox 360 series. "We've got plans for Fable III, IV, and V, actually... It's a big story arc, and you can see that if you've played Fable II you'll recognise things from Fable."

Molyneux also hinted at what else may be in the pipeline for the Surrey-based outfit. "There is another project at Lionhead that we've been working on for quite some time. It's kind of the result of an experiment that went incredibly well, and we thought 'This has got to be a game,' and I can't say anything about it at all."

Although the industry heavyweight left details on that particular project rather thin, he hinted that a sports or driving game may also be in the works. "I've always been fascinated by challenges, and I've always said to myself 'Well, one day I really should do a sports game.' It's just simply because, you know, it seems such a genre which is just locked in stone... 'We know how we do sports games, we don't do them any other way,' and that is a real challenge to me. Same with things like driving games. I think those sort of games...what I want for a game that I do next is a really big challenge."

When contacted today, a spokesperson for Lionhead Studios declined to add further comments to Molyneux's statement. For more on Fable II, see our previous coverage.

P.S. i liked how Thresa was your sister in fable 1 and shes like your guild master in fable 2 plzz put something in fable 3 that was in fable 2.

And don't get me wrong, i have huge respect for these games. They are my favourite games, EVER. It's just fable 3, ok maybe. 4, i don't think so. 5 is pushing it. I'd just leave it at 2.

"We've got plans for Fable III, IV, and V, actually..."

To be honest i'm sure fable II is as good as it's going to get. I'd quit whilst they are ahead. The franchise will be ruined with all those games. How much better can it get other than graphics since graphics are always improving?

Fable III IV and V would be a waste of time really.

And if they dare bring out a "Lost Chapters" for Fable II i won't be happy.

RevanXIII, the first Fable is on the pc too, you know. And I liked the pc version more than the xbox one. It's like that for a lot of games. Just because you can't run every game on max settings doesn't mean the pc's crap for games. At least you can fix it. If a game has problems on a console there's nothing you can do but pray for a patch.

fable...or any self respecting good game..will not go to pc...because pc is complete Crap. if pc owners had any brain cells left they will get a console.

they should make a new sport that people in fable 2 watch, and let you import your fable 2 character(or whatever fable is out when this game is out) to the game and have him be your star player, and any munny you earn in the sports game you can import back over to the fable game like with pub games, it would really advertise that importing feature to people and mabye more video game companies will start doing it too

I would be the happiest guy alive if the best game creator alive made 3 more fables, but I can hardly imagine any ways to make fable even better.

If they will make Fable III IV and V for the 360 I'll be so happy. The only down side is if (in my opinion) if it took 3 years to make Fable II, how long will it take to make the other Fable games (if there will be any)

I think if Peter makes a fable 3, 4, & 5 that would be a great thing if he contiues to build on what he's started. Look at what he's done with fable 2 and if fable goes to the future time line we might see a fable world thats like a shadowrun world, troll with chain guns. That would be insane! Will just have to see whats in Peter's head and what new tricks he pulls out of his bag. Laser swords and Flaming shotgun anyone

Nar i dont agree. fable shouldnt be made into the present time its a game that has been made for swords monsters and questing and thats the way it should stay... and they could make some more fable games but they would have 2 make a kick ass story or no one would like the game.they would go bankrupt.

These games are amazing, I'd love to see more of them. Remember the first 2 are set in albion, they could always expand to other regions to keep it fresh. How about an oriental Fable? That would be interesting.

im not sure if they should make fables all the way to 5, i think it mite ruin the game if they make a series thats TOO big, like what would they do for fable 5? would you be a present day or future hero or something? i dont know i really hope they dont do that i think it would be stupid.

Peter Never delivers on anything when you get fable and it has some nice things but is missing something you wish was there and ruins the experience you will understand too peter cant deliver what he promises.

I would avoid anything he is involved with.

And, @ Rocko666; that's insane. a game every 2 years, and that's the only difference? Could it also be that one is a sports game, and one is fable? I am jazzed for your prediction to be proven wildly wrong.

    @Darkride66
Yes, if microsoft released their exclusives multiplatform those games would make more money for them, initially. Why do you think console makers don't make their exclusives multiplatform now? Because it would degrade the quality and apeal of their own consoles. By taking away exclusive games you no longer have something that the other consoles don't, making it a lot less likely that a potential customer would select that hardware when buying a console. It would be a disaster for microsoft and that is why they don't do it. I guess my point is that I don't see microsoft backing out of making gaming hardware anytime soon. At least for 2 or 3 more generations. I would welcome the event that the EA guy talked about a while back that would make it so there is only one gaming console on the market and it is licensed out kind of like dvd players are done, and all 3 console makers would support it, but i don't see that happening. Microsoft has made huge gains in their gaming department this generation, especially in north america. They may be failing in japan, but that doesn't mean they don't have a successfull business here. Anyway, thats my 2 cents. I'm done

  • darkride66

    Posted Jul 31, 2008 5:48 am PT

@ Gergroy_. You hit the nail right on the head. I don't think this is going to happen, but my point was that it's not outside of the realm of possibility. My posts were in response to all the posts claiming "Fable will never go to another console. NEVER!"
I was just presenting another viewpoint. Never say never. I don't think the Fable will necessarily jump to another console anytime soon but the argument and financial lure of going multiplatform is certainly there. Release to the 360 and sell x number of copies. Release to the PS3 as well and you've almost doubled that number. Business is business and the day may come (or already be here) where MS might consider the prospect of making more money. Isn't that what it's all about?

  • SaberSpellSword

    Posted Jul 31, 2008 3:47 am PT

repyling 2 Gergroy_ they are a business, ur rite, but have u seen how much passion molyneux has about fable. i rekon he actually does love his dog. if there is going 2 b another fable it will be a labour of love and not "fable tag team racing".

"I personally don't think it's too much of a stretch that they may publish multiconsole games in the future. They're a business, first and foremost and that means they're in it for the money. At their current earnings level they might not break even this gen. Don't be surprised if MS starts to publish multiconsole titles in the future. Probably not likely "

Now, lets look at the words you use here. It's not much of a stretch that microsoft will go multiplatform and stop making hardware. But yet you end with this scenario as being "probably not likely." Doesn't that mean you are making a stretch? when you are trying to say something might happen that "probably isn't likely?" Thats what it sounds like to me

BRING BLACK & WHITE 3! ... Omg I love those games :L... Just thought I might add :L LoL .
Just to clear up.. One of the main reason to have exclusives, is because they want to differentiate themselves from the other consoles, then it helps people want to buy their console instead. If everything had the same games, how boring would that be :L. AIMED at darkride66 LoL
