E3 2008: Wolfenstein, Singularity unveiled at Activision Blizzard event

[UPDATE 2] Snubbing E3 proper, the newly merged publisher shows off two new Raven and Marvel games and demos Guitar Hero World Tour's studio mode at a shindig all its own; Rock Band instruments will be compatible with new game, which will even adjust its drum scheme.

Kay having read more about it I like the fundamental controls of the time manipulation device. age, revert, stasis, and impulse. Inparticular I dont recall the 1st 3 ever being used in Timeshift's base control scheme unless perhaps they were amended at a later time.

[7:33] Now for a new IP, Singularity from Raven Software. A sci-fi shooter, it concerns the effects of a rift in time. First-ever trailer rolls, and shows a city being destroyed by an experiment. Time is shown running forward and backward. Lots of dank interiors.

Alright now what's going to separate this from Timeshift? FPS + Time manipulation? check! Unreal Engine 3 graphics? check! What is going to make this game different. I mean granted it's prototype was developed off the grid in about 3 months for the suits to ok it. I can't help but feel a little skeptical. Guess I'll have to read the cover story in Game Informer to find out. Oh and by the way I still got the issue despite them folding up they folded up right?

Indeed...I'm sure they could do a proper 80s style melodic thrash album, but they apparently don't like that style of music anymore, and St Anger was "the album they always wanted to make". Personally, I find them a disgrace.

Seriously Metallica needs to stop. St Anger was garbage. I love metallica to death but their new stuff is just bad.

"[8:42] Someone comments that Williams looks like Elisha Cuthbert gone bad."

Ahahahaha... classic. I hope that **** kiddie emo crap doesn't take over all of the newer "music games."

I also, have a hard time thinking Metallica's new CD is gonna be like old Metallica at all... hopefully.

it was Blizzard not Activison that boycotted E3. This was before the merger. Pls get yer facts straight.

    Posted Jul 17, 2008 4:56 pm PT

Activision-Blizzard said they were boycotting E3. Hmmm...I guess everyone forgot that because they showed the new Guitar Hero. If you don't support ESA and you don't pay your dues you should not be allowed at E3, it doesn't matter how powerful you think you are as a publisher.

It certainly was quite a bit of a snub to E3 (and the ESA) to have Actiblizzard hold their own junket at precisely the same time, in the same city (though convienient for journalists). Interesting stuff, especially a new Wolfenstein.

[8:24] He points out several ports on the back of the drum kit, one which will allow players to hook it up to a real set of drums or a drum machine and use them to play the game "right out of the box, no homebrew, no nothing."

HOLY SMOKES! THIS IS THE NEWS TRUE DRUMMERS HAD BEEN WAITING FOR. THIS PLUS THE MUSIC MAKER. GH JUST WON THIS RYTHM/MUSIC WARS SINCE IT WILL ATTRACT REAL MUSICIANS TOO. GREAT JOB ACTIVISION.

-I'm sure Guitar Hero: On-Tour has sold great, but the game really wasn't all that great in my opinion. Also, just put them out around May-June every year, right next to the band specific Guitar Hero game. No more often then that otherwise you run it into the ground.

-Singularity? Sounds interesting. I'll be sure to check that out as more details come out for it. Seems to me like Raven is working pretty closely with Activision now, while id Soft has started working with EA pretty much exclusively now. We'll see how that turns out.

-Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2? X-Men Origins: Wolverine? Good news for Marvel game fans. Never been an Ultimate Alliance fan, but I might give it a shot given that they seem to be putting a good amount of work into that. Transformers 2 also sounds cool, but as a movie not a game.

-You guys shouldn't have on World at War so much. Treyarch never made a bad COD game, they're just not great. They've always only had a year them while Infinity Ward has always had two. Now they have two years for World at War, and with they new stuff like flamethrowers, the darker tone, the co-op, and the famous voice acting, I'm all on board. I think they'll make a great game this time.

-Web of Shadows sounds pretty interesting, but again, I'm on a tight budget so we'll see if I can afford it. Quantum of Solace looks very interesting as well. I'm a little iffy on Wolfenstein though. It's really a Raven project and not an id Soft project. Unlike Treyarch, Raven isn't known for making solid games, it has a track record for a few bad ones. They also haven't been on time restraints, while Treyarch has.

-Now for Guitar Hero: World Tour. Song list is huge, and the instruments are just kick ass. The guitars slide neck sounds awesome, and it the guitar itself looks fantastic. The drums look awesome two, the improvements are big over the Rock Band drums, and all the hands on reports have nothing but good things to say about it. I know Harmonix is upping their drums too, but I don't think you can even compare them.

-To sum things up, the studio mode is sounding more and more appealing and I definitely wanna give that a try. The mixing tools sounds pretty advanced as well, and I think the uploading feature is gonna be simply huge. Finally, you got the character and instrument creators, which are gonna be a blasty blast to play with. I'm curious to see what Harmonix does to combat this.

-All and all it was a pretty good press event. Couple of announcements, bunch of video which I'm gonna go check out, and they of course showed off Guitar Hero. High five Activision.

@razgriz_101: You do realize that Paramore was in RB first as DLC, plus not to mention they'll be in RB 2. Besides, would you play as a digital representation of her or your own character? I'd rather be my own character.

Yay for GH: WT looking more and more like RB (end sarcasm) minus the possible overcharting.

And this is coming from somebody who plays and owns both GH 3 and RB. I just don't like how Activision is making things sound "exclusive" to GH to sucker people into brand loyalty.

Meh, screw that, bring on the the new Wolfenstein. Heck, even the new CoD looks interesting. I wonder if Treyarch can deliver this time.
