Resident Evil 5 due by March

Capcom plans to put Africa-set Xbox 360 and PS3 game in stores by the end of its current fiscal year.

Since the original announcement of Resident Evil 5 nearly three years ago, the game's release date has been shrouded in more mystery than the shady doings of the series' nefarious Umbrella Corporation. However, Capcom has now shed a little light on the game's release date in a business strategies presentation follow-up to its fiscal 2007 results, announced earlier this week.

In a section on the publisher's projections for its fiscal 2008 year (which runs until March 31, 2009), Capcom said it "aims to sustain solid growth by introducing Resident Evil 5 and titles in other core franchises." The publisher broke down a few of its sales expectations, with the next installment in the survival horror franchise projected to sell 2.3 million copies worldwide. The upcoming Bionic Commando revamp is expected to sell 1.5 million units worldwide, while Lost Planet: Colonies' success is pegged at 610,000 copies.

Capcom also touted its Monster Hunter franchise, which is exceptionally popular in Japan. Monster Hunter Freedom 2G for the PlayStation Portable was launched in March, and the publisher expects the Asia-only release to rack up 1.5 million in sales in its first year on shelves.

    This whole racist issue is completely ridiculous. Can't people just leave it alone?? My only problem is that I have to wait another year for this game to come out . Hopefully this game will be fantastic.

    Uhh, the games set in AFRICA........and apparently some black people live in Africa but also the rest of the world wow how surprising.............in other news, Asian people come from Asia but live all over the world as well............this just in, white people come from Europe among other places and they also live throughout the world.........POINT IS WE'RE ALL PEOPLE NO MATTER WHAT COLOR.......WHY ARE WE MAKING RACE AN ISSUE?     2009? Ah great, I was hoping to get to play this by Xmas. I hope they use the extra time to polish up the game nicely and remove any glitches or poorly implemented ideas. As far as the racial undertones in the game all I have to say is: If you’re a ZOMBIE running towards me with eating and murder on your mind I will VENTILATE your nasty zombie corpse body with bullets REGARDLESS of what color, nationality, ethnicity, tribe, or book club you happen to belong to.

    For the past XXXX RE I've been killing... OMG WHITE ZOMBIES!!!! Truth be told - people who think this game is racist are racist THEMSELVES? Why? Well simple - if you weren't racist yourself then you wouldn't notice these small bits and pieces... and the fact that you're sensitive because of "black" zombies just means that you are living fully aware of people's color and see people mainly through that.

    @Serious You know Kratos - while he is in Greece... one call tell from his body, facial features and voice that in fact he (if not African) is influenced by the African American Build... and Kratos if anything is KICK ASS!! BTW his voice actor is African American

    Man, everyones trying to say video games are terrible nowa days.

    Res5: People say it's racist. BS. While the game hasn't had an african hero, many other series don't either, and africa would be a logical place for the disease to begin, considering the poor conditions. Their's also the theory, and i believe an accurate one, that humans first appeared from africa, so their's symbolism in placing it there.
    GTA4: MAD(morons[or moms] against drunk driving). Didn't here them complain about Saints for having drunk driving. Also, i find it amazing that for all the things "bad" in GTA4, they pick that. Skip out on the murder, resisting arrest, and prostitiution...

    okay, i just want to say something in response to Serious' comment, have you ever seen the movie "I am legend", the whole world is in jepordy and the only person who can save it is a lone african....i know thats only one example, and i agree that it dosnt happen often, but thats the way hollywood is, its stupid, and for some reason thats the way the world seems to be, which is rediculous, i dont think it matters at all what color skin you have, everyone is capable of doing the same thing...
    i dont know about anyone else but when im watching a movie or playing a game it never even crosses my mind about what race the main character is, maybe thats just me cuz it dosn't even occur to me...

    It's funny how some people think this game is an intended stab at the black community, saying the main character, a white man is "killing the black enemy" When in japan, where the game is being created, the concept of white vs black racism is non existant in their society.

    I have no problem with Black zombies. However I would like a Black Hero to be added to the game. Why is it that whenever there is a problem anywhere in the world only a white can solve it. I've said it before. No one would like a video game where America is in danger and only a lone African can save it. I really feel more games should allow you to change the race of the main character. This would allow everyone to really feel a part of the game.

    I wish people would stop saying Silent Hill is better, are you kidding?, have you seen the same trailers for this game as i have???. Silent hill is completely dwarfed by this game. Silent Hill Homecoming looks good, but it will be destroyed when resident evil 5 comes out. When the new trailer comes out on friday you will see how dumb you are for favoring silent hill over this.     Is it hard for people to tell the difference between Fantasy and Reality? Video games have their OWN races, we aren't killing off our own race. Knock off the racist BS because there is NOTHING wrong about this game. What do you expect to find in Africa for God's sake, ALBINOS? No, it's full of blacks, and gee that's where this game just HAPPENS to take place. If you don't like the idea of killing blacks, that's your own problem, but we don't wanna hear ya moan about it, just go back to playing your ol' ghetto games. As for myself? I am very excited indeed for this game, I've been playing RE since I was pretty small, in fact it was the first game I ever rented when I got my PSX. Fell in love with it, kept up with the RE line.     People still complain about this racism thing... I'm Haitian and LOVE the RE series, no need to get mad about killing Africans that are infected; you had to kill White/Black/Asian Americans and Spanish Europeans that were infected. This is the only series other than MGS and KOF that I continue to replay over and over. I don't see a reason for people to get all bent out of shape because it's in Africa. They should be happy a japanese company has the gull to do something different. Every video game we've seen nowadays are based in the US, Asia, or Europe. Finally we get a game set in Africa, the biggest continent in the world. I can't wait the racism is going to have to stop though, cause it's really annoying from both parties.

    Blueviper, while I agree that this game isn't racist, it should also be noted that 1) The civil war was fought chiefly for economic reasons (slavery being a factor) 2) Getting bent out of shape about something as insignificant as race is a narrow-minded sentiment. That's like me going to the middle-east and asking the poor there why are they getting bent outta shape over water. When it doesn't affect us, we can be ignorant to the gravity of certain things, wouldn't you agree?

    I have no problem with you defending your hobby, but next time let's think for 2 seconds before we post, eh? kthxbye

    I can't wait for this game!!!! I need some more zombies to kill. I don't understand why everyone is worrying about racism. Resident Evil 1,2,3, and CV was all killing white zombies. RE 4 was Spanish villagers and RE 5 will be Africans. All thats left is Asian zombies and we'll have gotten almost everyone except Aliens and Predators.
