Report: Beyond Good & Evil 2 on the way

Michel Ancel tells French magazine he has been working on the game for a year, although Ubisoft is yet to give the project the official nod.

Ever since Beyond Good & Evil came out to wide critical acclaim but little commercial success in 2003, fans of the game have been begging for more.

Michel Ancel, Rayman creator and man behind the original Beyond Good & Evil, has said in an interview with French magazine JeuxVideo, "I am working on Beyond Good & Evil 2. We have been in preproduction on the title for a year, and we're currently doing market research. But for the moment, it's in the early stages, and Ubisoft still hasn't agreed to it."

Ancel, who still works as a designer for Ubisoft, said that 10 to 12 people were working on the project, and although he didn't mention platforms or a time frame, he did talk a little about the gameplay. He said, "We want to be in continuity with the first game, with a big variety of levels, lots of emotion in the gameplay, and characters we care about. This time we are dealing with planet Hillys' future, and the relationship with animals...."

The first Beyond Good & Evil came out on the GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC platforms. Gamers played photographer-for-hire Jade, who looks after children who have been orphaned by the DomZ, an alien race which is attacking her planet, Hillys. In her work, she soon discovers a conspiracy between quasi-military force the Alpha Sections, who claim to be helping defend the planet, and the DomZ. It combined action adventure gameplay with stealth elements.

The article finishes by saying that it hopes that Ubisoft will give the project the green light, and that perhaps it will be using the upcoming Ubidays at the end of this month to do so.

They gave the green light to the mediocrity that was Assassin's Creed, but they won't give this the green??? UBISOFT, WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU!! BG&E was incredible. I play it at least once every other month all the way through.... I'm not exagerating, I really do. My first complete completion time was 21 hours, my second was 11, now I can finish the game with every single pearl in just under 7 hours.... that game rocked so hard.

The first one was excellent. Definitely not marketed right. They'd be fools not to release a second, next-gen version.

I loved this game. I loved it with a passion. If they make this a true sequal, and if it's a Wii exclusive, I will buy a Wii just to play this game. Not to play Mario. Not to play Zelda. Not to play SSBB. I would buy a Wii to play this game.

Now if it was multi-platform, on the 360 for example, then I'd be able to step away from the Wii yet again. I would never buy something that expensive if I didn't think I'd invest the proper time into it, and no game on it seems like I'd play it for a good amount of time.

.....I really have no words except ohmygodohmygodohmygod please let this be greenlighted. I think I almost hyperventilated when I read the article title, and I am NOT normally an excitable person, so that might give you an inkling of how awesome the first game was.

Edit : ...WTF, the timestamp on my post was 'dec 1 1969' just a second ago o.O

I almost picked this game up. But I didn't. bother. If it is still there I might try it. It is a great game from what I hear. Maybe Beyond good and evil 2 will do better. Or will it remain one of the forgotten games?

"As far as i'm concerned the story is told."
Really?
So you don't care about Jades origin, or Peij being infected by the DomZ?
BG&E was always supposed to be the first part in a trilogy.
Aside from that HOLY CRAP SDFGFDHREAY%UEUY#$63qa^#$P:^ $%K

cmon go wii exclusive and put it out in May when nothing comes out.....id say go ps3 and 360 but they have more triple A titles, and wii would have lower production costs making it more likely to turn a profit....plus i refuse to pay more then 250 for a game system and ps3 is too pricey still.

you know in a way i'd prefer a spiritual successor to BG&E rather than a direct one .. as far as i'm concerned the story is told.
i'm much the same with Psychonauts .. i'm more interested in brutal legends than i would be over Psychonauts 2 .... but then again .. i don't know if i could resist a Psychonauts 2 !!

Ubisoft, please pick up this game! Or be decent and let some other publisher take it off your hands. Part 2 has to be told; we want Jade back on Hillys!

Ubisoft makes so much money off its other franchises and the only reason the first one didn't sell is because they themselves boxed it in between Rainbow Six and Prince of Persia.

If they announce a sequel I will make it my goal to push this game until I can't talk, and then I'll walk around with a book of pictures pointing people to it.

i found the orig of beyond good and evil a lot of fun. It was pure entertainment. im in my 50s. I found it to be refreshing and in some places rather hard a sequal would be a definate buy for me. looking foreward to it.

There would be no greater thing than a BG&E2 game. The 1st was a great game. I cannot believe it did not sell well.

The style of BG&E was amazing and the story was unforgettable. If they can make a sequel that is as powerful, I'll snap it up.

OH YES!!!! I loved the first one. I loved it. I loved the story, the gameplay, the setting, everything. The final boss was really tough but oh this is great news. That ending is something I never thought I would get resolution for. I figured we would never see another one. Oh, so cool. I hope it all works out. It's THE overlooked title of last generation.
