April 29 was the day many gamers had long been waiting for--the global launch of Grand Theft Auto IV.

When the game finally arrived, it broke records in the UK, where it sold 631,000 copies in the first 24 hours that it went on sale. In the first week it was on top of the charts, as a total of 926,000 gamers joined in Niko's adventures in Liberty City. The game sold out in many retailers in the UK in the days after launch, as stores struggled to cope with demand for the popular title.

This week, UK official sales-tracking body Chart-Track revealed that the game is still number one, and has now broken past 1 million sales. Unsurprisingly, Grand Theft Auto IV sales were much reduced from the first week, down some 77 percent. However, the game still beat the number two contender, Nintendo's Wii Fit, by 4-to-1.

The Xbox 360 version was still the most popular, with the gap between sales on Microsoft's format widening to 62 percent of all sales, compared to 55 percent last week.
