Gas Powered Games roared off the 2008 starting line with one of the first games announced for the year, Demigod. Initially slated to arrive for the PC in the latter part of 2008, Gas Powered Games today said that the title is now slated for a February 2009 launch, and that Sins of a Solar Empire publisher Stardock has signed on as the studio's publishing and distribution partner.

Of gods and men.
Of gods and men.

Demigod is a real-time strategy game with role-playing game sensibilities often compared to Blizzard Entertainment's popular Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne user-created mod Defense of the Ancients. Set in a far-future fantasy world, players take to the planes of war as epic deities leading legions of underlings as they vie for a seat in the pantheon of supreme beings. While Demigod will emphasize cooperative and competitive gaming, a single-player portion will also be incorporated.

While Demigod's official launch has technically been pushed back, players will actually be able to wade into the fray sooner rather than later. Stardock and Gas Powered Games also said today that the game will benefit from a public beta beginning this summer.

As with other Stardock offerings, the game will be free of on-disc copy protection, and the publisher said that Demigod will receive "many months" of free postrelease feature updates. For more on Gas Powered Games' Demigod, head over to the game's preliminary Web site.
