PaRappa creators' Wii game unveiled

Major Minor's Majestic March set to parade onto store shelves for Nintendo's system by year's end.

The Def Jam series lets gamers step into the shoes of Method Man. Guitar Hero asks players to rock like Hendrix. And by year's end, those looking to channel their inner John Philip Sousa will finally get the chance to do so on the Nintendo Wii.

Majesco Entertainment today took the wraps off its mystery project from the creators of PaRappa the Rapper, and it is Major Minor's Majestic March. The game is the brainchild of designer Masaya Matsuura and artist Rodney Alan Greenblat, and is being developed by Matsuura's NanaOn-Sha studio.

Taking on the role of Major Minor, gamers will become a virtual bandleader, using the Wii Remote as a baton to keep tempo with more than 25 remixed international marching band songs. On their quests to conduct the perfect parade, players will pack the procession with up to 15 different instruments. It might not be an easy task, as gamers will also have to negotiate an array of events that threaten to unravel the meticulously metered march.

Major Minor's Majestic March is expected to launch during the 2008 holiday season.

It's not a stupid idea, RogueRazgriz1. You don't use an instrument in this game. What you are doing is using the Wii Remote as a bandleader's baton to guide animals with musical instruments into different formations. It's different than Guitar Hero, if that's what you are talking about, even if it's in the same genre. But in this game, strategy is involved.

its funny... a rhythm game with guitars is automatically cool but one mention of a band or a wind instrument and its automatically stupid; why? i am looking forward this game because its subject matter is rarely touched on

btw: it takes as much, if not more, skill to play AND master a wind instrument or a mace than a guitar

could be alright... i do love my rhythm games. Nothing'll ever beat amplitude though...

Sounds pretty interesting, glad that third party Wii developers are finally picking up the slack. Hope to hear more about this soon.

"i really hope it works out, this is the kind of stuff that the Wii can offer that nobody else on the market will even attempt"

There's a reason why no one else will attempt it.

Interesting.... Get it to create levels out of your own songs, ala Vib Ribbon, and I am sold!

Will not matter how good the game really is, once you start announcing 'developed by the same creators that gave you PaRappa the Rapper, you have instant credibility. Will sell like hotcakes.

The return of Parappa would be cool. But what I'd really like to see is the return of UmJammer Lammy. Imagine them making it compatible with the GH peripheral. Holy cow.

Metroid Prime 3 - Sequel of a sequel
Super Mario Galaxy - Sequel of a sequel
Super Paper Mario - Sequel of a sequel
Nights 2(can't recall the sub title)- A sequel
Zelda: twilight princess - not so much a sequel/prequel but nothing new either way.

    ----------------------

    As opposed to:

Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction - Another game in the Ratchet and Clank series.

Metal Gear Solid 4 - sequel

Unreal Tournament 3 - An updated remake of Unreal.

Call of Duty 4 - Another military shooter

    Devil May Cry 4 - .............

See? I can pick and choose only a few games, disregard their quality, and ignore the rest of the system's library too.

Does anyone even _remember_ Mad Maestro? That's all this will be, only with a Wiimote. (Not that that's necessarily a bad thing)

Not my kind of game as many who commented before... but considering the sucsess of cooking mama (also from Majesco if i'm not wrong) i won't even try to predict the sales of this such game.

Interesting concept except you focus on a few games instead of all the games as a whole. Take a good look at the Wii's true library and you'll find a fair amount of great games all over the place, most titles which are doing better than any game to come to the PS3 thus far too I might add. You named off 5 games, one of which wasn't done by Nintendo, how about taking a look at those titles not done by Nintendo that are great games? Let's also take a look at how nearly 13,000 people who frequent this site think Sony isn't close to being out of the woods yet and how close to another 9,000 think they still can do it but have alot of ground to cover while merely 6,000 people think they are good to go as is.

Numbers speak volumes about a console and looking at the numbers from the first year alone of the Wii and PS3, and well clearly the PS3 couldn't hold a candle to the "Gamecube with a new controller". However I am sure that one day when Bluray has finally taken over the market as the next mainstream source for DVDs alot of people will get a PS3 and it'll make a great DVD player for lots and lots of people while the true gaming is left to Nintendo and Microsoft. When Sony can do more than gloat over mediocre numbers during a holiday season where the previous generation console outsold their latest console let me know, until then PS3 is just a second rate console that delays major titles and gets other major titles late.

Don't hate on Nintendo for doing what Sony wishes it could do, and don't bother slinging the crap around about how Sony is nothing but pure gamers. I'm sure if someone ran the numbers about how many people actually play their PS3 and how many just got one for a cheap Bluray player, my guess is at least one quarter of those who own a PS3 won't ever pick up a game. Sony lost against the DS with the PSP, and it'll lose against the Wii with the PS3, and what makes this worse for Sony is that Nintendo is crushing with a console/handheld that isn't nearly as powerful as what Sony has, and Nintendo makes it look easy. Enjoy your fanboy hate, others (myself included) will be enjoying great titles and hours upon hours of fun with our Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's for a long time to come. I'm sure Sony's 10 year game plan for the PS3 will all pan out in like 20 years. Until then long live the PS2, its more of a worthy contender for the Wii anyways, at least that one has some great games and is still actually selling.... well at least more than the PS3.

Back on track though this seems like it could lead itself into some interesting gameplay and maybe even lead to the rebirth of PaRappa on the Wii? If NiGHTS can make a come back on the Wii PaRappa can too, though I'm just glad to see more third party companies getting involved with the Wii and working on building games around the Wii instead of just porting them over.

All I gotta say is that the original PaRappa game better be an unlockable. An interesting concept, but I'm afraid it will have only a niche following. Nintendo needs to come up with some better games because my Wii is turning into nothing more than a Virtual Console machine. I don't consider myself as much a gamer anymore as I was 5 or 10 years ago, but I beat Super Mario Galaxy so fast that I was left disappointed. A great game, but only having to collect HALF the stars to win is a bit much.

We put so much emphasis on making games look pretty that we forget that most gamers shell out $50 because they want a game to last more than a couple days before beating it.

Sorry for the random rant, now we return you to "When Fanboys Attack!" on FOX!

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of marching band music; this doesn't sound like a game I'd really be interested in playing.

But I think that there probably are fans of marching band music, and I'm glad that they're going to get this game. Not everyone out there is going to like Brawl, but of course I already have that pre-ordered.

One of the nice things about the Wii is how it seems to have different things for different tastes.

    @power-baron:

I don't think violet_yoshi was referring to any of those games you mentioned.

On a side note, the Wii, PS3 and 360 all cash in on major sequels. What makes your system so different? Nothing. Quit preaching YOUR system of choice (the PS3) as the best system available because right now it has the least games available out of any of the three and is last in sales.

speaking on behalf of any kids who have ever even slightly enjoyed marching band: this is a cool idea.

Jesus tapdancing Christ on a pogo stick, some of you are being overly judgemental over the damned thing before we even know all that much about it. How about waiting for at least a little more info on the thing before BAAAWWWIING about how it sucks and the wii sucks and how apparently Smash Bros is the only game making the Wii worth having, when in reality theres plenty out there for it thats as decent as anything on any other console - which is true - I own a 360 and while I do tend to play that more it has nothing to do with the Wii's games, which are perfectly fine - or lack of them for that matter.

Again, wait a bit before whining.

Though I will agree with those saying a new PaRappa would've been sweet.
