Xbox's Bach to head Boys & Girls Clubs

Microsoft gaming division head to serve as chairman of US youth organization for two years starting in 2009.

Given how many people consider games to be child's play, it's somewhat appropriate that the Boys & Girls Clubs of America this week named a gaming executive as its next chairman. Beginning in 2009, Microsoft's entertainment and devices division president Robbie Bach will serve a two-year term as chairman of the Boys & Girls Clubs, taking over for the current chair, Tupperware Brands Corporation CEO Rick Goings.

The Microsoft executive has deep ties to the organization, as he currently chairs the group's marketing committee, and has served as chairman and board member for the Boys & Girls Clubs chapter in Bellevue, Washington. In 2000, Microsoft helped the organization establish its Club Tech program with a commitment of $100 million in software and support.

Bach will oversee a Boys & Girls Clubs board of directors full of movers and shakers, including actor Denzel Washington, baseball slugger Ken Griffey Jr., Gap founder Donald G. Fisher, Sprint Nextel president and CEO Daniel R. Hesse, and Essence Magazine founder Edward T. Lewis.
