UK PM 'worried' about games
Gordon Brown says he is concerned about knife violence in games and calls on developers to "be responsible."
UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown has said that he is concerned about video games that feature knives and that he would like game developers to stop their characters from using blades.
Speaking to The Sun, the PM stated that he wants a "zero tolerance" policy on possession of knives and guns in the wake of a series of fatal stabbings of teenagers.
He told the newspaper, "I am very worried about video and computer games. No one wants censorship or an interfering state. But the industry has some responsibility to society and needs to exercise that."
As part of his crackdown, he has informed Metropolitan Police chief Sir Ian Blair that people carrying knives in any of the 12 worst-hit areas for knife crime should no longer be simply given cautions. Brown will also be sending teenagers undercover to find shops which illegally sell the weapons, and he is also considering a total ban on hunting knives.
