Aussie game charts: December 10-December 16

Grand Theft Scratchy hijacks the charts.

The Simpsons Game for the PlayStation 2 has finally managed to take out the top spot in the Australian game charts--seven weeks after its initial release--according to data trackers GfK Australia. The DS version of the game also made it into the top 10, taking out the seventh spot.

Super Mario Galaxy for the Nintendo Wii--last week's number one--fell down to number two during the week of December 10 to December 16. Drawn to Life for the Nintendo DS has reappeared in the overall charts at number three after a brief hiatus. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the Xbox 360 climbed up from the previous week to number five, while Activision's other chart topper--Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock--is nowhere to be seen. Halo 3 for the 360 has reappeared at number nine, while Nintendo's Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree bundle ended the week at number 10.

Strange to see Kane and Lynch outsold Ratchet and Clank on the PS3. I guess there is no such thing as bad media.

actually Lucidmike78, Kane and Lynch has been getting some solid advertising, at least on the radio. The Simpsons Game has been by FAR the most advertised game in Australia this year, at least living in rural NSW. Advertising = Sales, the large PS2 userbase is also a contributing factor.

Its good to see that most of the games in the top tens are quality games such as Mario Galaxy and Call of Duty 4.

I'm more worried about the state of PC gaming when four Sims 2 (just churn out any old dribble) expansions make it in to the PC top 10. Really shows why movie tie games sell so well.

"Just slap a recognised name on it, and get that crap game out. It will sell like hotcakes" says the marketing man.

A ilttle surprised to see Kane & Lynch on the top charts of PS3 and X360 charts. Which begs the questions:

    1. Is it the power of negative press?
    2. Was the game better than the "ugly ugly game" that Jeff pointed it out to be?
    3. Is it better than the 1.0 rating that 10,000 people gave it without actually playing?
    3. Is it the power of advertising? Advertising overcomes negative buzz on the Internet.
    4. Did people buy it as a gag gift? White elephant, secret santa, or something like getting someone a lump of coal for x-mas?
    5. Did people buy it to check out the game for them selves to see what the fuss was all about?

    I haven't played the game. I'm a big Jeff fan. I don't rate anything I don't play through at least 60%.

Really not many surprises in this latest chart. Given the feedback that my friends are giving me on COD4, its pretty much the greatest one yet and has loads of added weaponry incentive to keep you coming back for more.

A must have for console or PC gamer, and these charts really do reflect that.

Finally SMG got knocked down form top spot, also RE:UC sales are dissapointing to me. But yeah Simpsons game on PS2 being the best seller isn't a surprise to me because there is about 2 million plus PS2's and only about 200,000 WIi's so for Galaxy to still be second is pretty but yeah SMG is still doing really good.
