Take-Two confirms 2K Marin

Publisher acknowledges new California studio rumored to be working on BioShock 2, says it is focused on building new brands.

Last month, a job listing and a blog post from rumor hound Surfer Girl got gamers buzzing about a supposed BioShock 2. The job listing mentioned that a group of developers from the original BioShock were setting up a new studio in the San Francisco area called 2K Marin, which the Surfer Girl post tied to the next installment in the submersible first-person shooter.

Take-Two wouldn't comment on the rumor at the time, but today the publisher shed a little light on the matter with the official announcement of 2K Marin, which will be based in Novato, California. Although the studio will codevelop games with other 2K studios around the world (much as 2K Boston worked with 2K Australia on the original BioShock), 2K Marin was specifically established to develop original intellectual property.

"We're focused on continuing to bring new brands and cutting-edge gameplay to market with the creation of the 2K Marin studio," 2K president Christoph Hartmann said in a statement. "2K Marin will build upon our success in creating and leveraging AAA franchises."
