Reyes swings to MLB 2K8 cover

Speedy New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes covers 2K Sports' annual baseball sim franchise; on deck for 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, Wii in spring 2008.

For the past five years, the New York Yankees have been hitting 1.000 for landing cover duties to 2K Sports' Major League Baseball 2K baseball sim. In 2003 and 2004, Yankee slugger and first baseman Jason Giambi covered the game. In 2005, Yankee shortstop and current team captain Derek Jeter stole the spokesperson spotlight, and maintained his cover status for three consecutive years. This year, however, the Yankee reign is over--though the title remains in New York.

Today, 2K Sports announced New York Mets speedster Jose Reyes would be the cover star and spokesperson for Major League Baseball 2K8. The publisher also officially confirmed that MLB 2K8 will arrive for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and Wii in spring 2008.

A career-long member of the Mets club, Reyes officially entered the league in 2003. In 2006, Reyes led the Major League in triples and stolen bases. In 2007, Reyes again led the league in stolen bases with 78, as well as logging 19 home runs and ending the season with a .280 batting average. Reyes was also named as the starting shortstop in the 2006 All-Star game.

MLB 2K8 has not yet been rated or priced.

Reyes may have had a horrible second half, Met Fan, but he still draws a huge crowd and his popularity is off the charts around the leauge. so 2k put Reyes on the cover knowing they will sell a lot more games. Not to metion the fact that Jose is one of the best players in the game today. Finally, the Mets will win the World Series this year against Detroit Tigers and Jose Reyes will have a huge contribution to that championship.

Sweet, if this is as fun as Wii sports Baseball mode hehe this has tons of potential to be the best version as far as being interactive, realistic and actually gets you off your butt to play a sports game : )

I also wonder if Nintendo will go with the online route with major sports games like this one, I hope : )

every year id say they should use the world series mvp to cover the game for the next year. only makes sense to me. i could care less about the cover. i just want a solid baseball game. the last time i played a good baseball game was MVP 2005 from EA sports. 2k has been horrible. a must rent b4 u buy game. this rights battle of MLB and NFL has got to end. the only ones hurt are the gamers who want a GOOD sports simulation. competition between the companies is the only way they will REALLY try to make a good fun game. thats my 2 cents

STOP COMPLAINING!! 2K can put whoever the hell they want on their cover...GEEEEEEEZZ!!!! How do you know they didn't ask Magglio and he refused...that is a possiblity?

I can understand the Jeter thing for like 3 years straight was WAY TOO long (and I'm a Yankee fan)...besides they say Reyes represents the focus for the game this season, i.e. EXPLOSIVENESS...not to take anything away from any other baseball players, but in my opinion the only other players who fill that role ,as of today, are Jimmy Rollins and Hanley Ramirez. Next year Rollins will be on the cover, maybe, then we can all stop crying and start playing a hopefully WONDERFUL baseball simulation. =]

Why Reyes Why????!!!! He sucked the second half of the year and when the Mets needed him the most...he sucked even more. Poor choice. Needed someone who was a lot more productive like Magglio Ordonez or Mike Lowell. They would've been better.

that is sooo freakin DUMB! Why put Reyes on there when there's a better SS for the Marlins?! I think they should have given Ramirez the honors- think about it, the Mets choked last season! Someone else deserves this man
whatever- Nobody should buy this game. It's a bunch of crap compared to MLB The Show!

Let's hope they can make it to the post season this year. Last year was so disappointing. But hey, I was a fan in 2003 when they were like 53-100, so I'll be a fan if one year they don't make it to the post season.

uuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhh, could we change the state from freakin new york to california, jesus, how many years are they gonna put the new york teams on the cover, in fact, this series of games and mlb 06 and 07 the show have had east coast players on the covers, and i'm getting sick of it, put new faces on the covers from the west coast for a change, i dont care who the hell it is as long as its away from the east coast, i dont have any problem with the east coast just so everyone knows, its just tiring to see new york or boston on the freakin cover

sweet but i personally would have liked to seee a-rod on the cover over reyes. not because i dont like reyes, hes amazing, or not because a-rod is a yank but because he was arguabley the best player of all last year. but it is very nice to see someone other than a yankee on the cover for once.

No J-Roll? Ichiro? Papi? ARod? I understand no Holliday or Sabathia. You NEED to have a marketable guy for obvious reasons, but c'mon! I guess choking and having a horrible second half earn you the cover of video games.

Ummm......Gladestone1, I'm sure Drummersteve was joking when he made the Bonds comment, as his "LMAO" should have spelled that out to anyone who read it. As for the real home run king, last I checked Hank Aaron is ahead of the Babe so I think that means he is the home run king.

Give it to a Great player whose on a Team that you know actually makes the playoff's...Like Matt Holliday or CC Sabathia...Typical overhyped NY media..Reyes is a good player...But he shouldn't be on the cover of this game.

Wow, what world class hatters we have here. Calling bonds a cheater and talking about the tigers making the sox and yanks their bytch. Ya'll are all crazy. Bonds is the King, the sox are champs and the yanks ain't far behind. And those are the facts. Learn to like it.

Back to the topic at hand. This kid (Reyes) is in the top 5 shortstops in the league, and he's marketable. Reason enough to make him the cover guy.

'07 was definitely an off-year for Jose Reyes. Why not put Jimmy Rollins as the cover athlete? Let's see...he just won the MVP, plays the same position as shortstop, have equal overall attributes in terms of 5-tool talent and is definitely the better defensive player of the two. Guess they have some Mets fans over there at 2K.

    @felshs

Yes, i agree A-Rod should be appearing on a cover becuase he is in my opinion the best in the game however there is nothing wrong with Reyes. I would take Reyes over Rollins anyday. And if you know anything about baseball you would know Reyes is the most electrifying player in the game.
