Retail Radar: DS EndWar, Splinter Cell

Product pages up for unannounced portable editions of Ubisoft franchises; Brütal Legend gets an incentive for first 666 preorders.

Between online product listings and Nintendo's own release schedule, it seems everyone except Ubisoft itself is convinced that the publisher is bringing its stealth-action game Assassin's Creed to the Nintendo DS.

Now product listings on GameStop's online store are suggesting that the publisher is bringing two more of its anticipated games to Nintendo's portable. DS editions for both Tom Clancy's EndWar and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction are listed on the retailer's Web site, with both titles expected to ship in March 2008 for $29.99 each.

These would not be the Tom Clancy franchise's first excursions onto Nintendo's latest portable. Super spy Sam Fisher first infiltrated the system during its first year on shelves in the poorly reviewed Splinter Cell Chaos Theory.

GameStop also has some attention-getting listings for games that are already announced, such as Double Fine Productions' Brütal Legend. Beyond offering up a few details on the rock-heavy game (which will apparently let players "play face-melting solos that actually melt the faces of your enemies"), GameStop is also offering a preorder bonus for the game on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The first 666 people to order the hellishly themed game will receive a free Brütal Legend T-shirt with the logo on the front and protagonist Eddie Riggs on the back.

Please note, while retailer listings frequently jump the gun on publishers' product announcements, they should not be taken as final confirmation of a game's existence; nor should the absence of a listing be considered as proof that a game isn't coming to a given platform.

wow glad to hear about endwar for ds. there is definetly not enough decent strategy games for ds.(other than advance wars and glory days) assasins creed could be amazing if they really took advantage of the touch screen, i mean just imagine the type of killsand stuff u could do with the stylus. as for SC, i was 1 of the few that liked the ds version of chaos theory, the multiplayer was raw so i have above average hopes for these games

Games these days just simply go multi platform, without any incentives, whatever happened to getting extra levels, or exclusive weapons and uniforms. why should i buy a ps3 game if its exactly like the x360 version. or a DS -vs- PSP with no extras. I think all games should go multi platform, its good for all 3rd party companys and systems, but each should be a little different in there own way... just enough.

For only $29.99 now that is a good deal! Unlike Splinter Cell Double Agent for Xbox 360. On half of the levels you are at the JBA place and not any real spy action! NO FUN!

Maybe we'll finally get some worthwhile Tom Clancy games on the DS, but I thought Conviction was exclusive to 360.

"We can't get Conviction on PS3, but the the DS does. Makes a whole lot of sense."

Microsoft has an exclusive grip on Splinter Cell at the moment, but since they arent competing with handhelds yet, Msoft probably said they could put it on there.

Sorry but Tom Clancy games aren't meant for neither the DS or PSP, those aren't the type of games you play on the go, quick and fun games or Castlevania/Mario Platforming/Pokemon/Tetris stuff like that. I love GRAW, Rainbow Six, and Splinter Cell but its much better to play it on the 360 where it feels like it belongs.

Sam Fisher......knocking guys out cold on handhelds?

So long as the development isn't divided too much i'd rather have each game on both platforms (360 & PS3) No chance i'd ever buy two games on both systems but if it's better for the developers (larger install base) then it's ultimately better for the gamer.

    No, not exclusive to 360.

You see, Microsoft only paid them to not make the game on any Sony Platform. They totally forgot the other competitor.

Why is it that Nintendo seems to be the only company to be able to make a game for their consoles that don't suck (control issues, not the story)?

Endwar sounds like a game that could definitely work on the DS. I find the move strange though because the nature of the whole game might not fit with the DS's audience, which would lead to poor sales for it...

i hope the releases are confirmed. conviction and assasin's creed have the same play mechanics from what i've seen, so if one is confirmed, the other is a given. the ds can appreal to the hardcore gamer, as well as casual, so let's see some more blockbuster franchises on it.
