C&C FPS (unofficially) confirmed

Source close to EALA says the shop is indeed working on a "Renegade/Battlefield-style" shooter set in the Command & Conquer universe.

Earlier this week, Electronic Arts posted a job listing for its Los Angeles studio. The position in question is a sound designer to work on "a next-generation first person shooter game" from "a widely recognized leading sci-fi franchise." Though EA owns the rights to the sci-fi series Syndicate, Wing Commander, and System Shock, EALA is most famous for one sci-fi series in particular--Command & Conquer.

The job listing lead to speculation of a remake or sequel to the 2002 shooter Command & Conquer: Renegade. While the possibility seemed likely, today GameSpot received direct confirmation from a source with knowledge of EALA's development resource allocation that work on a multiplatform C&C FPS is well under way.

Though the source, who spoke under condition of anonymity, wouldn't go into much detail, the project is indeed a "Renegade/Battlefield-style FPS." No information on a title, release date, or specific platforms was provided, but games from EALA's World War II FPS series Medal of Honor have been released for the PC, Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. The most recent C&C game, Command & Conquer: Tiberium Wars, was a best-seller on both the 360 and PC.

    a C&C FPS is an awsome idea i liked Renegade and i'm sure this one will be as great I hope...

    After the RTS in the C&C universe, there will come a FPS. This will make the story better and it will extend the C&C epic

    I LOVE RENEGADE! I...may...seem...to...get this game. Despite myself being unsupportive of EA, I guess if this game gets good reviews and better options then Im looking forward to it.

    Battlefield-style eh? Should we expect in-game ads, immutable controls, and annoyingly cumbersome vehicles then?

    Hope EA focuses more on updating Renegade than reproducing Battlefield's unique flavor of suck.

    ehhhh im not too happy bout it

    now dont get me wrong i love renegade and still play it all the time its just that that game was very good the way it was only thing i want them to do is maybe some better graphics and a more stable engine(ie. the fact that you would fall through the map, jump a barrier in a car, and jump into a car and get a blue screen and lose the vehicle) but other than that the character classes and vehicles were pretty well balanced and gameply was very good

    OMG please don't make it like Battlefield, Battlefield was very unbalanced, i would rather it be the exact same gameplay as the old C&C Renegade

    I loved the first Renegade, but one thing killed me: they didn't get the original voice actor for the Commando aka Havoc, Frank Kelpacki!

    C&C Renegade was a great game. It just preceeded Medal of Honor and may only be lesser known because of the wave of WWII games that started right after it. However, at the time, the graphics, gameplay and multiplayer online, including use of a variety of vehicles and weapons, was way ahead of its time. Can't wait to see this one in the future!

    Good news! C&C: Renegade was a fun shooter. Multiplayer was dead when I bought it but the single player was fun.

    To all of you who said "Oh no" to this news:

    Only graphics and sound got 7, the rest got 8, which is great. Furthermore, EA is now good at making Graphics and Sounds, so there is nothing bad about it!

    PS: I'm really looking forward to seeing this game =D

    Renegade way good but it became Rengay cos of unbalanced MP "Cough noobjet rifle" Mods such as Renalert and C%C reborn although the game is still one of my top ten games

    It had better be as good as Renegade. It doesn't get much better than Renegade I'm afraid. HUGE SHOES TO FILL.

    What i heard is you play as Kane, in the middle of WW2, at a time when Kane has no idea he'll even create Nod one day. And you get air dropped on the map at the start of every mission. Hmm, wait?!

    Magic Carpet 3, AHHAHA I wish that was what they were going for... I'm not sure if I want to see another attempt at a C&C FPS.

    EA is sitting on a goldmine of old classics that one day they could cash in on big time.

    Battlefield-style shooter??? Nooo, I want a REAL C&C game not another Battlefield-like clone!! For those who have no idea, Renegade was an awesome C&C FPS, so the C&C universe is not only about RTS games!

    Well it sounds good. I just hope it is not a rehash of Battlefield in a different setting like others have mentions earlier. Good thing they have Greg K. at EALA, unless someone else is the source....

    Sweet, I never played Renegade and I can now finally get into a new C&C FPS, with everythin in the C&C universe in it....weapons and vehicle wise.

    Because EA will take an IP and stuff it on our faces until we can't take it anymore. Once they've successfully sucked the life from a franchise they throw it out the window.

    that's basicly what ubi did with r6v and graw, same game different settings
    why does everyone bash ea so much when they aren't the only ones that rehash games?

    Could go either way. C&C is great subject material, the idea is awesome, Renegade had a few flaws but was overall excellent, and they have the resources to back it up.

    On the other hand, EA could just **** it up, like they usually do. So it could go either way.

    I think it should be based on red alert, even though the tiberium story is WAAY cooler (and just has better games). It would be amusing to fight russian squids in first person.

    Anyway, for it's time, renegade was decent, seems like a good idea to go further with it. (or in other words, "why not?")

    At least not a tiberium game. (GDI Weapons Factory Destroyed)
