California pirate gets jail time

Today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day, but some people just aren't getting into the spirit of the occasion. For instance, the Entertainment Software Association chose to talk about a pirate instead of "like a pirate" when it touted the sentence delivered to Vista, California resident Frederick Brown for selling counterfeit games.

In August, Brown pleaded guilty to two felony counts of trafficking in counterfeit products, and as a result now faces a one-year sentence (90 days in prison with the remaining time served in work furlough), $100,000 in fines, and a restitution payment to the ESA of $10,000. After serving his time, Brown will face five years of probation and will be "subject to computer-use restrictions."

Brown was arrested in June after authorities were tipped off to his activities by ESA investigators. A raid of his residence turned up hundreds of bootlegged game discs.
