Sega's Steinberg skips to Sony
Former Sonic Factory VP takes marketing reins at PlayStation operation's US arm on October 1.
Less than two weeks ago, Sony Computer Entertainment America senior director of corporate communications Dave Karraker headed for the exit. However, today SCEA announced it has enlisted an industry stalwart to spearhead its North American marketing of the PlayStation brand.
The new hire in question is Scott Steinberg, current vice president of marketing at Sega of America and a 20-year marketing veteran. After starting at Sega during the Genesis era in the early 1990s, Steinberg worked for a variety of entertainment and technology companies, and oversaw the 2003 relaunch of Napster as a legal download service. Before he returned to Sega, he also worked for Eidos Interactive at its Crystal Dynamics studio in Silicon Valley.
As of October 1, Steinberg will begin work at SCEA as vice president of product marketing, an all-new position created specifically for him. His duties will include overseeing all "hardware, software, and channel marketing for PlayStation in North America." He will report to former THQ executive Peter Dille, now senior vice president of marketing and the PlayStation Network.
