Sam & Max return for season two

Telltale Games prepping second run for Steve Purcell's oddball crime-fighting duo for this fall.

The Sam & Max series of adventure games developed by Telltale Games is one of the first episodic success stories in gaming. After the series debuted in October of last year, the quirky crime-fighting duo hit a fairly regular rhythm of releases beginning with its second installment in January and concluding with its sixth installment in May. A boxed set of season one will hit retail shelves this August.

Seemingly taking its cues from network television, Telltale Games announced today it would be ending Sam & Max's summer hiatus by launching the first episode of season two this fall. As with its first season, Sam & Max will initially debut on the PC-game distribution service GameTap. However, unlike the two-week exclusivity for season one, the first episode of season two will be available on Telltale's Web site the day after it premieres on GameTap. Telltale did not mention whether episodes from the second season will join those from the first on Valve's game-distribution service, Steam.

Today's announcement was light on game-specific details, but the second season will follow in the same vein as the first. According to Telltale's design director Dave Grossman, "We're keeping the general structure and gameplay, and focusing on telling farther-reaching, crazier stories. You'll see some changes to the world, too, improvements that were born out of player feedback and our own desire to make the most fun games anyone has ever played."

u know what would be cool... if the original sam & max: hit the road was re-released over steam bundled with an emulator built in to run the o'l SCUMM engine... that would be cool... i mean ScummVM exists.

Is the first season going to be all together in a single box. I'd rather buy the games all at once instead of an episode at a time.

I just hope Telltale doesn't fall off the wagon and port Sam & Max to any console. This is probably the last faithful franchise sticking with the PC.

Sam & max episodes are truly one of the better adventure games out there. Voice acting is mostly top-notch unlike some other games out there at the moment and the jokes are plenty and constant in the good ol' sam & max style. If you haven't played it yet, buy the season set. You won't be disappointed.

Finally some news. I was completely hooked on all six episodes for more than two months, completing each episode three times altogether. The whole episode thing doesn't bother me, as long as they keep the price down low (but it also wouldn't hurt to drop a few cents now and then), considering the amount of time spent going through the content.

although i really like the sam and max games,
but the episodic content is really irritating, and breaks the momentum over and spoils the connectivity

This is great! Keep the ah-resurrectin' the adventure game genre Telltale. It is your destiny,

As far as season one on the Wii goes, original developers rarely ever work directly on ports. Just because Telltale is working on season two doesn't mean season one isn't being ported. I am fully confident this series will make its way to the Wii in due time.

I want Season 1 for the wii. If they're already making Season 2 for the pc I guess they're not focusing on consoles.
