Splinter Cell: Conviction temporarily overturned

Ubisoft delays Sam Fisher's next excursion; superspy now expected to resurface in early 2008.

Ubisoft reported a significant sales spike in its first-quarter fiscal results today, but it wasn't all good news from the French publisher. In addition to the simple facts and figures, the company also announced a delay for the next installment in one of its biggest series.

Originally scheduled for release between October and November, the Xbox 360 and PC stealth action game Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction has been pushed back a quarter; Ubisoft now expects the game to see release by the end of March 2008. It could have some similarly themed company on the new-release shelves, as Ubisoft's newest Tom Clancy brand extension, EndWar, is set to arrive on next-gen consoles in spring of 2008.

Even if Sam doesn't get his high-tech suit, it doesn't mean that the ever-nameless spies in SC:Conviction multiplay won't as well. Spies vs Mercs was good stuff, I don't think Ubisoft will be so dumb as to remove it.

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory and Pandora Tomorrow had the true splinter cell formula down packed, specifically the multi player package. Splinter Cell Double Agent watered this formula down by taking away some of the key gadgets that made the multi player as challenging and fun as it was. Now, I think conviction is going to KILL the multi player because I seriously doubt they're going to give Fisher his tactical suit, tazer gun. smoke grenades, flashbangs, sticky cameras etc. Now it's essentially become a fighting game. ubisoft is taking a huge risk by abandoning the original formula and I just wish they would have continued on and expanded upon the chaos theory type of game play. I'm not even specifically referring to the campaign because I think the multi player made chaos theory and pandora tomorrow gold. I pray today that some day ubisoft will continue upon that, but my hopes are diminishing.

I totally agree with Philbo, the storyline is just steadily declining over time. I like it much better when it was more about stealth and the grand scheme of things and less about Sam...

I reckon that it is going to be a rushed job like the way they did SC: DA. And that you have to get patches for it and everything. Even when that I have updated the computer to highest specs imaginable.
I also was told that the game is going to be push back to the summer not the spring date that was originally intended for. Which is strange considering that they are waiting for results for AC.

You do get to use a gun - look at the trailer, Sam shoots up a hot-dog (or whatever) stand. There just seem to be many more options as well as using a gun!

emmm no, the story line in the original splinter cells were cack and even reviewers said they paid no attention to the storyline that much coz it was crap dont say it was the story that made the first 3 splinter cells great..coz the storys sucked ass

I'm a bit disappointed in the way this is turning out. One of the things that made the first three Splinter Cell games so great was that the story was never about Sam Fisher. Sam just happened to be an interesting character who was involved in the grand scheme of things. The storylines were focused on political tensions, and it was generally Sam's job to follow orders to help Third Echelon keep the U.S. out of war. I was deeply disappointed with Double Agent's storyline (and gameplay in generally, really), and although the gameplay for Conviction certainly looks fun and interesting, it doesn't make sense for a Splinter Cell game. Ubisoft really ought to have just made a brand new series with a new character, rather than making Sam Fisher out to be another crummy action hero out to clear his name and save his friends. The premise for Conviction and the technology behind it are great, but putting those into a Splinter Cell game seems little more than a decision driven by marketing rather than a genuine attempt at making a great game. I'm excited about Conviction, but I'm very unhappy with the direction the Splinter Cell series is going.

Another 4 months ah man! Can't wait that long!!! I seriously doubt they would ever do a starcraft ghost to splinter cell 5 cyw1988. Althou i wish they would reconsider starcraft ghost especially for ps3 or pc i waited yrs for that game, for it to end like that : (

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! oh well, ubisoft always does this, so i wasnt suprised. they delayed double agent like 4 times. and yeah the xbox360 version might have been short but the original xbox version of DA (which is BC btw) was even longer than chaos theory was plus has two levels the 360 version didnt have (money train and new york) the 360 version wasnt wrapped up very well at the end, it didnt say anything about what happened to enrica or lambert or anything. the xbox1 version is wrapped up alot better and explains the story in greater depth.

Im not too distraught about this, for the said reasons. Plenty of other games coming out, more time to play them, Double Agent definitely wasn't perfect. It was too short. I beat it in 2 sittings. Im not saying it was bad. it was fun. The whole plot for conviction sounds great so It give me something to look for this spring.

The advantage Splinter Cell has over MGS is that in Splinter Cell you actually get to PLAY the game rather than just watch cutscene after cutscene after cutscene.

    I'm happy about this, because:

    1. They work more on the game and they make it better because they have more time.

    2. Releasing the game in Q4 2007 is a stupid idea, because there are A LOT of awesome games like GTA IV, Halo 3, Assassin's Creed, and Call of Duty 4, and the sales for the new Splinter Cell will be lower.

    3. I have more time to play the other new games in the end of the year.

    4. I still haven't finished Double Agent, because I have a lot of great Xbox 360 games and I don't have enough time to finish all of them.

damn, i can't wait for this game. but it had to be done, so be it. i'm kinda used to a march release date anyway for splinter cell games, (chaos theory, the 1st game, and pandora tomorrow) i believe all had spring release dates. double agent came out in like october/november i remember. and yes graw 2 was released in late march i think. either that or early april
