E3 '07: Wii light gun zapping in
Reggie Fils-Aime reveals that a new peripheral is coming, along with Zapper-friendly titles including Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles.
SANTA MONICA, Calif.--Nintendo's president, Reggie Fils-Aime, has announced that the Wii will be getting a new peripheral, called the Zapper, a light gun that houses both the Nunchuk and Wii Remote.
Fils-Aime commented, "Essentially, it is a new housing for the Nintendo and Wii Remote... However, it will change the dynamic of first-person shooters in the same way the Wii Remote changed sports games."
The Nintendo president also revealed that a number of games would be coming, especially for the Zapper, including a top-secret first-party title that Nintendo is currently working on. He wouldn't reveal anything further on the game, except to say that it would launch in a special bundle with the new Zapper controller at the price of $19.99.
Other titles in development include Capcom's Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, so that gamers can "give zombies a good zapping." Electronic Arts' latest Medal of Honor title, Medal of Honor: Heroes 2, "has been built specially to take advantage of the Wii Zapper." Fils-Aime also revealed that up to 32 gamers could play the title in the online multiplayer mode.
Sega also revealed that the Zapper would be compatible with the arcade-port shooter Ghost Squad.
