E3 '07: MGS4 delayed until 2008

Konami's highly anticipated PS3 title is pushed back to 2008; new trailer shows worldwide release will now come "early 2008."

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--The latest adventure of special-ops agent Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, was originally meant to be out in October 2007, then was delayed to a sometime-in-2007 release. The game's release date was again updated in the publisher's financial reporting, which listed it as releasing before the end of the fiscal year, in March 2008.

Konami has today confirmed that the game will be pushed back until 2008 in North America and Europe. At the end of the latest MGS4 trailer, it said "worldwide release early 2008."

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is a PS3-exclusive stealth action adventure game, and part of the series that soared to popularity with the 1998 PlayStation title Metal Gear Solid.

Two sequels followed, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The games were created by Japanese game designer Hideo Kojima, who also worked on the Zone of the Enders and Boktai series.

The latest game, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, was originally confirmed in 2004, although for substantive details of the title, gamers had to wait for the 2005 Tokyo Game Show, where the first trailer was shown.

    smoothn00dle, you are wrong on so many levels, there is nothing wrong with Halo3 and if it was so easy to make a Halo3 game where are they all and why isn't everyone making millions and millions of dollars, just stop hating a game because it's popular to hate it.

    And last I heard Kojima did not say never he said there were no current plans to bring it to 360. In fact the last time he was asked he left it open saying you never know what might happen in the future.

    As for MGS4, it's to bad it's delayed I really wanted to play it at my friends place.

    WHY do they put that it's been 'delayed'!? A definet release date was never stated to begin with!

    Good news! Im prepared to wait a life time if thats what it takes to make mgs4 the perfect experiance... let the man have his time I say and have him serve us all the best damn mgs he can muster =)

    I'd rather have a good game which is in development for a long time and achieves it's potential than a bad game whic comes quickly and squanders it's opportunity.

    The trailer looks very good and Kojima said that the gameplay will equal the quality of what is shown. The only bad part is we'll have to wait till 2008.

    Halo3 look crap, not in the same league of Killzone2 and Gear of War.. I really worry about this franchise will end poorly. Everyone can develop a Halo game nowadays. It is no Star Wars *v*

    Xbox360 port, will never happen. Kojima is a powerful figure in Konami. He was the vice president of Konami Computer Entertainment Japan. Only one person above him in the gaming division is Founder and CEO Kagemasa Kozuki but he is a figure head. Kojima said no means no, not like Ubisoft or Capcom.

    Thats too bad... but seing how its alot of gaming show up to 2008... each major one will probably have a trailer and demo leading up. Plus this last one was simply a way to say "it will be worth the wait".

    I CAN WAIT!!! Unfortunately, I´m gonna have to.

    P.S. So what does this mean... that last part of last E3 trailer is null n void? The crossing out the 2008 date? Will they put out a new finale for that trailer and bury that old trailer under the snow?

    i'll agree ps3 is a little advanced than an xbox 360 but that didn't mean it's can't handle Metal Gear Solid 4....cheer up guys..when it come to console gaming...developers can do anything they want to upgrade or downgrade the games according to the consoles specification...i am software developer..so i know...

    If sony actually sold enough PS3's it might be exclusive, one of the people from konami even said in an article on gs that they want to keep it on the ps3 but they are worried about the consoles install base in the US which is where they get the majority of their sale's. They also think the price drop to 499 still won't be enough to get the fire started so i personally wouldn't be surprised if they went the way of DMC4, i'm all for it staying on the PS3 alone. It would give me an excuse to buy one, aside from the BR player.

    Let them take there time, by that time MGS4 will be announced for the 360. in the mean time I'll be playing a HOLE BOATLOAD of 360 games! And while MGS4 keeps getting delayed I 'll just wait until the annoucement for a 360 MGS4 port.

    yea its too bad this isnt the only game coming out for the ps3. since your obviously blind with your xbox goggles tightly wielded to your head...you should look up the games for the ps3 coming out this year.

    jonfigs by the end of this year the Wii will have plenty of great games and it will be sold out and ebay prices will be high again. MGS being delayed is not a hugh surprise but will not be a good thing for the PS3.

    I understand delaying it for quality control reasons but we have been waiting forever for this game. Even Blizzard who demands nothing but excellence doesn't take this long. But the truth is that Sony will end up paying the ultimate price. The 360 will own this holiday season and honestly, I think the sales of the Wii are overrated. It is game sales that crown a winner and there just aren't enough quality Wii games to win in my opinion.

    My ps3 and I had a nice little chat today. Our long walks dance in my head when iam alone.Fortunately my 360 holds me through the night. What that Ps3 is home sh++....hide hide this could get ugly.No baby put that gun away we just fell asleep thats all. What... can u join in .....ok , this might be what me life has been missing now 360 dont be so ruff.

    The ps3 took me in its cords. Whoa what a strong grip i thought.Quiet , i said, so nobody will here us Then in a flash him was loaded and ready to go then suddenly something went noticeably wrong 360 was getting hot and bothered.Grind...him said ....Grind... and then he gave up.Where is his passion I thought. He became so hot he turned red,flashing red . Whats the matter baby ,I said.He gave no response .He would not even talk to me any more not even to show me his pretty parts.OMG hes dead to me.Good thing I have someone on the side.My ps3 and i done the sixaxiz(tm) all night long.

    Xbox i think iam pregnant, i said.He stared at me with those red eyes .So I dumped him ,in the trash.Week later I met a new black xbox (because of the avaliblity and ther sooo cheap) But he was ruff as well and didnt chew his food properly like the ps3.Xbox I said , u have no manners then he charged me for his services .I felt so used.

    At least I have some one who I can depend on. So I was comforted by the soft yet noticeable warmth of ps3.Not long after I conceived i gave birth to the spawn of satin ....A 78 pound Ps60.What will I tell my mother I thought!

    As the Ps60 got a bit older he wanted to see the city.Bancok and Tokyo mostly. Hes just like his fathers I thought. Iam not having that said his existing firm but loving father.     Sorry to state the obvious but this is not good news for Sony. The PS3 desperately needs "killer games" that will shift new consoles.

    Konami have the cheek to threaten "taking steps" due to poor PS3 sales and question Sony price strategy but do nothing to help get decent games out in a timely manner to help the situation.

    Personally I think the PS3 price is ok. When the PS2 came out it cost £300.00, with all the extra technology in the PS3 it represents fantastic value for money. That said, my priorities in life have changed since my PS2 days and I cannot justify spending that amount of money on a games console. However, it would be hard to resist if there were enough decent games...!

    At this moment in time I am far more impressed with the 360 line up, although should I pay that amount of money for a console that will be replaced and dumped within 4-5 years and might need repair before that time expires anyway?!

    it is crap news, 2008 seems along way. i have both consoles but im happy to keep some games to specific systems, its good that 360 has halo, an ps3 has metal gear

    not to mention the last few MSG haven't been a huge seller like they wished. MSG2 only sold like 1 million, that's extremely undersold for a game of MSG status.

    They are basically waiting to see how PS3 sells for the remaining of the year. If it tanks then Konami will no doubt release it on Xbox360. Poor Sony.

    Maybe the delay is so they can finish getting it developed for simultaneous release on the 360. I swear every piece of news I read on Gamespot anymore just seems to be another kick in the balls to Sony.. harsh.

    Dependant on taste, but with the lack of PS3 games out now, they'd be welcome on the PS3... not as if there is much else to play... just think of this as the strong throwing the weak and sickly a scrap from the top table of gaming.

So you Sony boys go curl up and dream about all the games that you're going to get to play in 6-9 months or more. In the meantime, I'm going to go play the huge number of 360 games that are here today that the PS3 never even glimpsed: Gears of War, Viva Pinata, Lost Planet, Dead Rising, Guitar Hero 2, Forza, Geometry Wars, Shadowrun, Crackdown, G.R.A.W., Just Cause, Saint's Row, Test Drive Unlimited, Burnout Revenge, DOA4, Gun, Kameo, Perfect Dark, 99 Nights, Prey, King Kong, Quake 4, etc. (By the way, I owned all 3 consoles in the last generation, each had great games.) Hey PS3 owners, tired of Motorstorm and Resistance yet???"

    The thing is the PS3 NEEDS MGS4. It relies on that series. The 360? Not so much. It's called "timed-exclusive" for a reason, cows. Bottome line MGS4 will come to the 360 eventually, and that's just icing on the already large and scrumptous cake. (I don't know of any 360 owner who would want MGS4 over Mass Effect) So I guess Konami will atleast make some money when it goes multiplat............

    360 fanboys are funny..the day before sonys press conference all the 360 fanboys were happy that mgs4 was going multiplatform. and now that its exclusive to the ps3 the 360 fanboys are hating...its funny to me right now..the ps3 is looking more and more promising as the E3 continues..

    what BS... I was hoping for a 360 version of MGS4 and now I have to hear all this nonsense. I don't mind waiting for good games, but Sony must have pulled some heavy strings in order to keep this title as an exclusive.
