Konami sales soar, no MGS4 until '08?

Winning Eleven publisher reports strong financials, Solid Snake's next-gen debut now slated for company's current fiscal year, which ends next March.

Japanese developer and publisher Konami has reported record sales for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2007--280 billion yen (approximately $2.3 billion) up from 262 billion ($2.15 billion) last year. Operating income also jumped to 28 billion yen ($230 million), a huge increase over the previous year's 2 billion yen ($16 million). The company puts last year's results down to an "accelerated depreciation related to the health and fitness segment."

Konami's digital entertainment division, which includes games, continued to be the main source of profit for the company, with sales down very slightly on last year at 165 billion yen in total ($1.4 billion). Titles which did well over the past 12 months included the Winning Eleven football game series, selling a total of more than 8 million units--the highest number ever in a single year for the franchise. Other titles which the company praised included the Dance Dance Revolution series, which shifted over a million units. New anime game tie-ins Death Note: Kira Game and Kirarin Revolution, along with Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, were also cited as strong performers.

For its current financial year, Konami named only one title that it is expecting to drive sales--Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The announcement means that the game could arrive as late as March 31, 2008, although the last release date issued by Konami was still a general "2007."

In its gaming and system division, Konami reported strong sales in North America of the new K2V video slot machines, which were boosted by expanded slot legalization in Pennsylvania and Oklahoma. Consolidated net revenues for the division totaled 16.7 billion yen ($137 million) up 58 percent year-on-year. The company intends to pursue strategic alliances with other companies in the overseas markets in the coming 12 months.

Japan revised its Nursing Care Insurance Law in April 2006 and passed the Healthcare Reform Act in June. Konami believes this resurgence of health consciousness was responsible for the rise in the company's health and fitness division profits by 9 percent to 88 billion yen ($720 million). During the last fiscal year, Konami opened 10 new fitness clubs, making a total of 312 run or outsourced by the company across Japan. The company states that it will continue with an "accelerated opening" of Konami Sports Clubs, and that it is expecting to expand upon the business in a number of ways--including marketing health supplements.

Konami is predicting net revenue of 295 billion yen ($2.4 billion), operating income of 33 billion yen ($271 million), and net income of 18.3 billion yen ($150 million) for the coming financial year.

    I really hope it will come to the 360. I love MGS, but I'm a bit reluctant to purchase a PS3.

    Wait a Minute, Didn't Konami say that MGS4 Couldn't be developed for the 360 because it doesn't have enough Processing Power?
    And that MGS4 Is Being Developed around the PS3's Cell Processor.
    I can't see it going Multi-Platform...

    Well, here, MGS2 did awesomely awesome in the PS2, but did horribly on the Xbox. Do you think Konami wants to do that again? Also, Kojima regularly confirms that the MGS4 WILL be a PS3 exclusive to the press. He also said that he doesn't like porting games, and it leaves a "bitter taste" in his mouth. Probably because he didn't want to port MGS2, but was forced by Konami.

    this is good in a way because ill get enough time to get ma self a ps3 and bad because i been waiting for it for a long time now. and i don't think that MGS4 will look good on the 360 like i said before Play Station OWNS the MGS series.

    Well, just because it wasn't there doesn't mean that its not for ps3. Besides, why else would sony be making MGS for the big screen?? Konami also denied claims that ot was coming to 360.

    uhh, recent trailer released shows that mgs4 is coming 07. this article is wrong-ola. also, the ps3 logo didnt show up in the trailer, as it had in earlier trailers. does this mean ps3 is losing mgs4 as an exclusive? one can only hope.

    *Laughs* All I know is I guess I won't have to get a PS3 or XBOX360 till October or September when GTA comes out....I was going to get a PS3 just for this game and then I would also get a GTA, but now I'm not too sure. 360 is doing better than the PS3 for now, so I've been thinking on buying a 360 instead, I'm still not sure. Sh*t I mite just buy both, 1st a 360 then when this comes out a PS3...hmm I think I've solved my problem..

    Why is every one arguing about the 360 or ps3 ports or what ever the hell there planing for the systems, why am i the only one pissed off that i have to wait ANOTHER year for a game that was suppose to come out this year? ughhh i cant wait.... WHY KOJIMA, WHY??????

    Alright 360 Fanboys and PS3 Fanatics,

    I'm not sure whether you were paying attention or not. I didn't say it was definitely coming out for Xbox 360. I said the possibility hasn't been ruled out. I also stated if it did come out for 360, it would not come out until sometime after it's original PS3 release, such as a second running of MGS4 (like Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance or Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence). As a hardcore MGS fan I've been listening to Kojima Production's podcasts on iTunes. Check out Episode 42 listen at 3min35s. Konami's Ryan Payton is fairly careful to say that they have not insisted that it's a PS3 exclusive The original discussion he is referring to is in Episode 40, if you wish to check that out.

    I'm not saying that MGS4 won't be a PS3 exclusive, I'm saying that no one has been able to air-tight confirm it, yet.

    P.S. I own all three consoles and I'm a huge fan of all the three, I'm not biased towards 360 or PS3 (or even the Wii for that matter) I'm simply looking at the facts and not ruling any thing out until they can be ruled out.

    I agree with the fact that MGS4 will be PS3 only .. The only MGS game I have seen on Xbox was Metal Gear Solid 2 .. but .. I allready had that for PS2 and I am a big Sony and Nintendo fan and don't care too much for Xbox .. I do hope that this game does get pushed back for 2 reasons .. I don't have the money just yet for a PS3 and I want this game to be 100% Mind Smashing Greatness Of Glory !!

    I think one thing that pisses me off more than nintendo fanboys are xbox fanboys. this game is ps3 only so get over it. judging by how it went for MGS3 snake eater and subsistence being ps2 only and Metal Gear Solid portable ops being psp only then obviously MGS4 will be Ps3 only. Xbox is a good console, dont get me wrong. its just u microsoft fanboys make the console look ugly so please lets all try to act more apropriate and not immature. the percent chance of it ever hitting the Xbox 360 is 5% or lower. I think its a pretty good idea that MGS4 is getting pushed back farther. Kojima, please take your time on the game, DONT RUSH.

    do you have a link to this confirmation? Without a link to show for it from kojima or the konami developers, mgs4 is ps3 only.

    Now, if you have a link for evidence to show this 'chance' of it going to 360 that you claim, then i'd change my tune.

    But till then, mgs4= ps3 only

    Kojima Production's developers confirmed that their COULD be a chance of MGS4 being restructured for a 360 release. However, if they were to do so it would not be released until much later and it would be similar to the way MGS2: Substance came out on XBox. (And we all know how that went.) They are waiting to go multi on their Sony exclusive because if their sales on the PS3 are sufficient, there isn't a reason to spend more time and money to bring it to the 360. So there is a slim to none chance of ever seeing it hit the 360. And by slim I mean less than 1%.

    So, Sony Fanboys, quit being so territorial. Xbox Fans it's good to have hope but don't act like 1st graders every time a Sony exclusive announces it's now coming to 360, especially when it's only circumstantial evidence.

    To all you 360 fan boys that think this will go to ur xbox it will never happend because one thing is enough to shut you all up and that is that Kojima is using the Cell Processor in the PS3 to make the game so unless your Xbox has that processor wich it doesn't you will not have MGS4 ever so shut the hell up already

    until konami or kojima themselves announce it's multi, its NOT lol. Besides that rumor was recently denounced AGAIN. Therefore, once again, xbots hopes and dreams of metal gear are down the drain.

    And really, how many times must kojima himself CONSTANTLY say "this is a playstation exclusive" before you xbots get the hint?

    as far as i can tell this is good news. knami have'nt actually announced that MGS4 will be pushed back till march. this article just says that that is the latest it could possibly be. as far as officail announcments go, MGS4 will be out in 2007.

    i will never get another 360 if i have to play wit so many fangrls claiming every ps3 game that gets pushed back. i know u love your box but come on every good game gets delayed. that doesnt mean its comin to 360 either that means your real self centered (get it 360) or your tired of sci fi shooters (say it aint so) i suggest waiting for something official or go post on a blue dragon board were everybody would agree with u i bet there aint no ps3 fanboys over there waitin for blue dragon to come to ps3 u make the 360 look bad when u wish to get sonys scraps dont get mad im just sayin have some dignity young men

    I love metal gear solid games, when i get my PS3 i will definately buy MGS4 instead of renting it. The trailers look so good.

    MGS series from PS to PSP sold around 20 million copies that is the same size as Xbox user base. MGS4 could boost PS3 sales from 1 to 2 million higher. @elmecca
