Hold on to the '80s, it's all coming back again. Recently ZooFly announced that a Ghostbusters game was in development but was currently stalled; ThunderCats is back on DVD; Battlestar Galactica recently had a new series; and now Transformers is coming to consoles once again.

Activision has announced that Traveller's Tales is developing Transformers: The Game for multiple platforms, and that it will be a tie-in to the movie due for release this year.

Gamers can play as either Autobots or Decepticons, and choose to protect or destroy the Earth. Players must master each character's unique weapons, moves, and transformations between robot and vehicle mode. The game will feature fully destructible environments, with the ability to "smash everything they encounter," and to use all objects as weapons to obliterate enemies.

The Transformers are also set to hit the big screen in 2007, in a new feature film directed by Michael Bay (Bad Boys, Armageddon), with Steven Spielberg as one of the executive producers. The original series' voice actor Peter Cullen also returns as the voice of Autobot leader Optimus Prime. It tells the story of the two warring factions of Transformers that bring their battle to Earth, endangering the future of our planet.

The game will be coming to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 2, PC, PlayStation Portable, and Nintendo DS. The release date for all the games is slated as "summer 2007."
