Scarface coming to Wii
Latest issue of NGamer reveals VU Games' adaptation of classic crime movie is coming to Nintendo's new console.
For years, Nintendo consoles have had a reputation for being the most family-friendly. The Mario factory attempted to change this image on the GameCube by nuturing a few extremely violent games, such as Eternal Darkness, Killer7, and Resident Evil 4, GameSpot's 2005 Game of the Year. When the Wii was released last year, Ubisoft's Red Steel was the token grown-up game, and it sold well despite poor reviews. According to NPD, the game had moved more than 219,000 copies as of December 2006.
Despite rumors of a Wii Grand Theft Auto, the highest-profile adult actioner on the platform's horizon was The Godfather: The Blackhand Edition. Now, though, it appears the adaptation of the 1972 epic will be joined by the game version of another crime-cinema classic. The cover of this month's British Nintendo magazine NGamer clearly shows that Vivendi Games is bringing Scarface: The World Is Yours to the Wii. The game was released last year for the Xbox and PlayStation 2. An Xbox 360 version was also planned but was canceled just as a PSP spin-off was announced.
According to the magazine, the Wii Scarface will have a control scheme similar to Red Steel's. Players will point the Wii Remote at the screen like a gun to control an aiming reticle to target opponents. The magazine also promises that players can use the Wii Remote for melee combat with the film's infamous chainsaw. According to NGamer, players will be able to sever legs and heads and will hear the sound of the chainsaw emit from the Wii Remote's built-in speaker.
No release date--UK, US, or otherwise--was available as of press time. When contacted by GameSpot, a Vivendi rep would say only that more news was "coming soon."

"from what I heard, the scarface game sucked, please don't suck the second time around Tony. It seems that just like Dr-Doctor said, more M-rated games are coming out for the wii, the godfather, no more heroes, mortal kombat, resident evil. Maybe the wii won’t be seen as so much of a kids console to some anymore. Not that I thought that, I backed wii from the beginning." .

"Wow, Nintendo Wii is going to this level ? Hard to believe. I hope this game allows you to turn off the foul language ? Wii should atleast give it that option ?"
If you're worried about foul language, then you shouldn't buy the game. Only an idiot would make a comment like this. Honestly.
It's people like you that buy a game like this for their 12-year-old, and then freak out when they finally watch them play it, due to all the cussing and violence, and then make some big loud-mouthed protest on the entire gaming industry because you failed to even bother to look at the game's rating or contemplate the fact that a game about the movie Scarface just MIGHT have some violence and foul language in it.
IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, DON'T BUY IT. I'm tired of other people (especially those with IQs drastically lower than mine) trying to tell me what I can or can't play.

Enough of the stupid ports with added controls! We want new games!!! What's next, they're going to blame the system for poor sales? Video game players are not idiots, companies should open their eyes... we're not going to spend for a game we've probably all played before, just because it's got motion sensing now!

"Say hello to my little Wii..."
Umm, actually scratch that... I mean... my God, what have I done!?
Anyway, back into character...
Oh great, another sub-par game to look forward to... although I admit the appeal of simulating chainsaw use without doing more time. Nonetheless, when Donkey Kong Country is the game I'm looking forward to the most on this console, we are in peril.

As the Wii's market share grows at a record-setting pace, I'm sure we'll see more third-party publishers line up their wares for the system. I doubt the Wii will suffer from the same shortfall of popular franchises that plagued the GameCube.

Time to cash in on a licence again, I guess. Hopefully it will be a GOOD GAME, and not just a "OH WOW! SCARFACE! I loved the movie, so I'll probably love the game just as much!" type of thing. I'd love to see Tony Montana do a drive-by on the back of a Yoshi, though!

"This point is made even more valid when garbage like Red Steel is the no.2 top selling game for the system so far."
While I don't disagree with the notion that it's silly to jump up and down over ports of bad games, I will argue the merits of Red Steel. Now, I personally haven't played the game (but you probably haven't either, so you'd be equally right to call it garbage as I am to defend the game), but most of the people I've talked to that have played it said they did enjoy it, but that the controls take a few days to really get used to.
I can understand people getting put off by games like Red Steel. It's not a game you pick up and play right away. Using the Wii-mote as a pointer, the thing is extremely accurate and precise, meaning that very small hand movements are required to play it correctly. You don't hold the thing up to your face and try to aim down it's "barrel," you hold it comfortably just above waist level and use it almost like a mouse.
I can see how easily it would be for someone with preconceived notions about how the controller should be used to spend a bit of time with it and become frustrated over how it reacts, since it probably won't react the way you expect it to.
90% of the games today (probably more than that, actually) go multi-platform, since it makes the most financial sense. To act like the Wii is getting nothing but ports from 3rd party developers is silly. Look at Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam, Rayman Raving Rabbids, etc. Even the cross-platform games like COD3 are unique on the Wii, due to the controls. Ports are an every day thing in the industry, it's whether the 3rd parties actually bring any software at all that really matters.
I don't remember anyone complaining when the PS2 got ports of Dreamcast games like Crazy Taxi and DOA2.

CyphenX "It was a horrible game before, and now they're going to make it worse for the Wii. I don't need to tell you that the hole purpose of the game (the first time it was released and this time too) is to be a cheap movie cash in / GTA rip-off. Now, they're adding in a bad control scheme (as exemplified by Red Steel), and their biggest "new feature" is that you can hear the chainsaw through the tinny little wiimote speaker, a feature with also sucked in Red Steel (of course, they did it with guns). I got nothing agains the Wii (in fact, I'm picking one up later this year) but this is not good news."
Well, it's not bad news.
It is the beginning of the inevitable wave of 3rd party support that is going to come to Wii. It starts with ports, and then moves to original content.
So is it bad news? I don't see it that way, even if this game wasn't all that on the PS2.

It's true, it's like Wii fanboys pee (or should that be Wii?) themselves in delight every time some mediocre port of a PS2 (or even PSP) game gets announced for Wii, and act like it's the second coming. This point is made even more valid when garbage like Red Steel is the no.2 top selling game for the system so far.

if they can tweak the game and make it less repetitive after you play for so long, and make the control scheme right, this could be a title to have in our collection

The fact the the hardware and control scheme of the Wii is so far different from the hardware and control schemes of the PS2 or XBOX leads me to believe that this game, and any other Wii ports, has the potential to be quite different from the original games, which could be good or bad. Besides, ports are typically done with different developers which itself usually gives the game a slightly different feel.
I don't mind if it's a port. I haven't played the original, and from what I've heard, it wasn't that good anyway. All I care about is that it's a good game, and if it is, I'll buy it.

Why is this frontpage news for a nintendo magazine? Its a freaking 1 year old port of a last generation game! This game was rated an embarrassing 6.4! "Is this the closest thing to GTA on the Wii?" that sounds so sad. Just buy a console that actually plays GTA if you want to play it so bad. It seems like Wii-owners will be happy with whatever garbage you throw at em.

Why would they make a 360 version anyways? The original Xbox version is backwards compatible.

If these games (Godfather/Scarface) sell well on the Wii, there will be some original sequels in the works.
If you don't buy games like these and support them, the Wii will suffer the same fate as the GC in terms of 3rd party support of mature IPs.
Hope that doesn't happen, otherwise the Wii will be home to alot of SpongeBob for years to come.
