Typically, launch parties for games are private and reserved for members of the press and media. Capcom is bucking that trend with the launch event for its upcoming Xbox 360 shooter Lost Planet: Extreme Condition.

The publisher is inviting gamers 18 years of age or older to the Concourse Exhibition Center in San Francisco, California, for the Lost Planet Launch Event. The party will be held January 11, one day before the game is released, from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Activities will include dozens of Xbox 360s running the game so players can experience both the single- and multiplayer portions of the game, a chance to meet the development team (who are flying in from Japan), a T-shirt press for attendees to make their own Lost Planet-themed shirt, tournaments, and, oddly, Lego artist Nathan Sawaya. Food and drinks will be provided by Wolfgang Puck, Asqew Grill, and Monster Energy Drinks.

Those interested in the party should register for the event at the Lost Planet community Web site, but Capcom warns gamers to get there early, as registration does not necessarily guarantee entrance. The first 50 people to show up will get exclusive T-shirts.

Lost Planet is rated T for Teen and will retail for $59.99. For more information on the game, read GameSpot's previous coverage.
