Age of Conan dawning on 360
Funcom to bring sword-and-sorcery PC MMORPG to Microsoft's console next year.
The world of Conan the Cimmerian, the fantasy barbarian of legend created by Robert E. Howard, portrayed in films by Arnold Schwarzenegger and re-created in several games, is returning to consoles. Funcom today announced that the massively multiplayer online role-playing game Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures has been approved for the Xbox 360 by Microsoft.
While this is good news for 360 fans who yearn to crush their enemies, see them driven before them, and hear the lamentations of their women, it isn't especially surprising. In April, rumors first began circulating that the developers had been working on a version of the game for Microsoft's next-gen console. Those rumors were further fueled in July, when Funcom announced a publishing deal for the PC version of the game with Eidos that also noted that the companies wanted to bring the game to the console market.
No release date was named for the Xbox 360 edition of the game, but a Funcom representative said it will definitely be after the PC version launches (currently expected between March and May of next year). And while the representative said Funcom has been pleased with its partnership with Eidos so far, the publisher has not been signed yet to handle Age of Conan for the Xbox 360. Funcom said it would have more information about the game, including "potential console-specific features," at a later date.
Combining action RPG elements with the MMORPG genre, Age of Conan was named GameSpot's Best Massively Multiplayer Game of E3 2006, beating out competition including EA Mythic's Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning and Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft expansion, The Burning Crusade. "deadman91090 people playing on the xbox 360 will be playin with people on pc right?"

That has not been confirned. Although, there is no technical reason it shouldn't be. Both PC and the 360 use a version of C# programming. Porting isn't that hard. They would really need to maximize performace for the 360. I would want it to look the best it can and the game looks great on higher settings. Games a ton of fun to play and I can't wait for the 360 port. A lot cheaper for us to own 2 360s, then two high end pcs.

This game will have a 15$ monthly and that isnt that bad considering its a x box 360 game (no bad ass comp req.). The standard is 15$ monthly for MMO's even on systems like xbox case and point is FFXI.

A lot of people seem to be against a monthly fee. This is an online RPG guys, how do you think they are kept running and updated? It costs money to do all of this. The kind of money that doesn't come from the sale of the game itself. It comes from the player subscriptions.
Remember, these games aren't the ones you buy, complete and trade-in. MMOs are designed to have a longevity of years, not hours.
The subscription pays for server upkeep, patches, in-game GMs and many other things which are essential for the long-term success of any MMO.

I think MMO for a console is the best possible idea. And it would be even more fascinating if this game will be cross-platform

Im very intrigued by this game. With WAR coming out, one of these two MMORPG's are going to be the next big thing, its just going to be hard to know which one until we get a chanCe to play them. I think the setting and mood of Conan will really appeal to many looking for that dark gothic world to escape from reality with. The game play and combat looks truly cutting edge, as it will not ba a standard click for combat as you can do some different attack moves, and even dodges and parries, something missing from every other MMORPG thus far. The intro solo game gives people a chance to get their feet wet before the full immersion into the Multiplayer PvP which is nice. Im not real crazy about the Xbox Live aspect, as I dont really want to hear chatter, or see a bunch of 13 year olds running around yelling, cool, and awesome. I have a 360 also, but I like that for my console games, and I like PC's for my RPG's. PLEASE DONT SCREW THIS UP, AS THIS COULD BE THE REAL DEAL!

So simply put... this is... only online?? no single player mode?? hmm... I don't know what to say... I mean hearing conan I for one would think that there would at least be a single player mode that would be elder scrolls
blivion-esque... so no one gets to be conan in this game?? well i guess that's why the title is 'AGE' of conan... hmm I guess in the end I'm still interested... but... is there gonna be like uhm... pre-paid cards for this?? cuz that would suck... I hope this is plain and simple online and the only thing I'm gonna be paying for is the online connectivity and not game hours too via pre-paid cards... cuz that's just stupid.

This game sounds awesome, but I only own a 360, not a high end PC. I don't like the idea of paying a monthly fee when I already pay $50 annually just to BE online.

alot of people seem to be concerned about lack of communication between pc and xbox players. Now, i may be a bit pre-emptive in assume something like this, but i have seen alot of tell tale signs that a controller attachable qwerty keyboard is probably in the works. I've seen the leak from the spanish conference and I'm pretty sure i remeber taking a hardware pole on xbox live! One of the questions asking if i could see myself purchasing such a device. Along side possible voice chat, which i can only assume would be optional (I'm not going to wan't to talk to everyone all the time), the last thing i am concerned about is communication. Even if this wasent the case (though im pretty sure it is), a cheap but dependable usb keyboard costs what.. 10 dollars? yea im not too concerned about communication. I've played tons of MMO's scince the launch of EQ, which i invested years in, and i am all for cross platform MMO's. I'm also looking forward to the mature content. finally.. blood spray.

I think MMo's will work great on the 360, and lets not forget about LIVE Everywhere which will launch this comming year like Vista. I played FFXI on the 360 and it worked great with PC gamers. It can be done as it has been done already. There is also other MMO's on their way to the 360 like Marvel Online and Huxley!

My only concern with the game is that it might not be able to cross platform with the PC, since they announced that Communication will be done via Voice over Xbox Live!. I think this was a problem with PSU, where the PC/PS2 versions could be cross platformed, but since the 360 version used Xbox Live! for many of the features, mainly voice chat, it wasn't possible to add it to the same PC/PS2 servers.
Now, Im not sure if that's a limitation due to the PS2 and can maybe be worked out if its just a PC/360 cross. I really wouldn't know.
I just hope that it can be possible to play on same server as PC users, and hopefully M$ will have a keyboard/mouse option by then. Wishful thinking, but would love that.
The game looks awesome, I just hope it stays that way for the 360.

I'm guessing that the PC and the 360 versions will share the same persistent world (like Final Fantasy IX) but I couldn't find that spelled out anywhere.
I think that the first action-heavy cross-platform MMORPG that comes out has a chance to do really well. The chance to play against the wide world of gaming regardless of platform would be a big draw, but it will have to have enough action to keep the twitch crowd (e.g. most console gamers) interested.

well it seems odd that people are saying how is a mmo gonna work on a console let alone 360 when final fantasy 11 is on 360 and works great and is cross platfrom with pc and ps2 a mmo on 360 is now nothing new the only reason people are looking at 360 now is because microsoft are not so tight on who can access there xbox live hence why final fantasy didnt come out for xbox like it was meant to seems cool to see another mmo on 360 im all for it i wont be a dummed down version a company wouldnt get away with it with a mmo its a online game it will be the same for every platform makes no sense taking stuff out and im guessing it will be cross platfrom makes sense to so all looks well keep the mmo goodness coming

An MMOG is perfect for Xbox LIVE, this means not typing and straight up communication using the headset. Also take into account you will probably only be able to play with people who have Xbox LIVE. I dont think there will be crossover with PC gamers. Those of you saying this is a bad idea are totally wrong

Well, no way I'll be picking this up now. Consoles and PCs are not like chocolate and peanut butter... these two great tastes taste best when kept far, far apart. Nothing ruins a PC MMORPG like a bunch of keyboardless console players running around. Sorry, I play consoles too, to play games in which CONSTANT TYPED COMMUNICATION ISN'T IMPORTANT.

"Sigh... let's just hope they keep the console kids on seperate servers. A MMORPG isn't a MMORPG if you can't communicate with players efficently (aka keyboard and chat)."
Both of which are fully supported on the Xbox 360.
