SYDNEY--Gears of Wars gamers in the US can expect to hear a horde of Aussie accents pop up on Xbox Live soon, with the critically acclaimed game hitting local store shelves on November 23. To help sweeten the Gears of War deal, Microsoft is providing free Xbox Live Gold access to all Australian and New Zealand 360 owners--for the weekend.

The free access will start at 3 p.m. EST on Friday November 24 and will end at 10 p.m. EST on Sunday November 26 (all times local).

Gears of War has already ousted perennial Xbox Live favorite Halo 2 as the most played game on Microsoft's online gaming platform. Yesterday, the game's publisher said it had already tallied 1 million in sales worldwide.

Gears was released in the US on November 7.
