Toys "R" Us Wii preorders detailed

Toy giant taking $50 preorders for Nintendo's console on October 29; PS3 orders may also be taken same day.

Gamers who missed out on Wii preorders at EB Games and GameStop earlier this month are getting a second chance at launch day giddiness. Toy monolith Toys "R" Us will begin taking preorders for the Wii on Sunday, October 29, the retailer confirmed today.

A $50 down payment is required to get the all-important voucher that will guarantee one of the $250 systems the day it is released, November 19.

However, that may not be the only console the store takes preorders for on Sunday. Over at Gaming Age Forums, a poster who claims to work for Toys "R" Us says that PlayStation 3 preorders will also be taken on October 29, which, if true, could make for strange bedfellows among those camping out on Saturday night for a good spot in line.

According to the poster, who goes by the nom de plume "jetsetmario," each store will have roughly 12 to 25 Wiis, four to 10 60GB PS3s, and one to four 20GB PS3s.

More evidence of PS3 preorders comes from Toys "R" Us' "Big Book"--the retailer's holiday print advertisement that is mailed out, available in-store, and circulated with newspapers. Scans of the ad, which will be released later this week and tells customers to "reserve [a PS3] now," hit the Internet and are causing a whirlwind among those eager to secure a hard-to-get PS3 on launch day.

Representatives from Toys "R" Us were unavailable for comment on PS3 orders as of press time.

    I got one. I got in line at 4:50 am and the store opened at 10 am. I was number 14 out of 20 Wii's. The store only had tickets for 8 PS3's, and they were all accounted for at 3:45 pm on the previous day. While in line, I couldn't wait for it to be over, but in retrospect, it was kind of fun. You end up making buddies with the people around you. The first guy in line was there since 1 pm from the previos day! Mind you, it was cold outside. He ended up getting PS3 and Wii (for his young son, who showed up the next morning). The line wasn't bad. The night shift guy at Toys R Us let us take bathroom breaks, and we all respected each others position in line. Everyone knew who had arrived before and after them.     I preordered my Wii at FYE at the end of september. They're not huge when it comes to games/systems, but they do sell them. I made sure before I preordered that it would definitley guarantee me a system on launch day, and they said it would. I forgot they even existed and I figured I would ask (they are next to EB in my mall). So if anyone has one in their area, try them out.

    I checked the Toys R US by me and there was 5 people in line early in the morning the day before . I believ they waited for about 26hours or so out side in front of the store and this is in Pittsburgh PA is it was Cold, raining, snowing, and the wind was 30 some miles per hour.
    Not sure if anyone else came during the night and waited for nothing because luckily for those 5 that waited, the store actually only got 5 systems (4-60Gig, and 1-20Gig)

    To " b0n3r ". You people destroy game system launches for the people who really do want the system. But luckily I have heard that Ebay is working on putting a end to price gouging the PS3 on their site. So good luck making much of a profit on the system

    I waited in line for 21 hours and preorded the ps3 and a second wii for a friend. It may not be worth it to some, but it was worth it to me. Besides, we were indoors for the whole night, with heater as well as an xbox. Now that is what i call roughing it. I didn't have my ps2 or 360 with me. *sigh*

    Waiting is line for hours for a console is NOT STUPID! You meet all types of gamers and they actually know what you are talking about. People enjoy all kinds of entertainment from concerts to sporting events and I bet they are willing to wait in line for hours to get it. Just have RESPECT!

    17 Wiis and I was 20 in line =( sad sad day, least my parents showed up so we took 3 TMX Elmos home. Mostly everyone in back of me were there for TMX Elmo. There were 8 PS3s, but I don't know if they were all 60 GB or 20 GB, but I saw some people that were like 3rd or 4th in line that got the 20GB package. Anyways, I'm not too angry since Nintendo did say they will have 1 million units out and they did exceed over 2 million in production, so I really think there is light for everyone that didn't pre-order. I just know most of those people in line were all for Ebay.

    This was a bad day for my best friend. Ok we got in line at 630am the store had 20 wii's and we were #19, and 20th in line. There were many things that went wrong for him. First he turned on his ds at toys r us...and it was red so he only played it for like 30 minutes. Then we got McDonalds and they got our order wrong. He also forgot his mp3 player at home. We were sitting there and he realized was sitting in gum, so he had gum on his pants. He went to a walmart for about 30 minutes to clean it off, he also brought chocolate with that trip. After about an hour he was thirsty from the chocolate and went back to get a drink. They started handing out the slips at 10am when he was gone. He came back and he didn't get one of the slips. Oh yeah and over all of this he hates rap music and people were playing rap music from their cars. So he had a bad day

    I was standing outside Toys R Us in White Plains, New York since 4pm on saturday afternoon... and i finally got my voucher at 7:30am. I was number 5 on line. w00t! Only 8 PS3's were available. One was the 20gb and the other 7 were 60gb's. So hotttttttttt!!!!!!!

    Got mine, #14 of 14 preorders in Norfolk, VA Toys R' Us. Was there from 5:30 AM and stood in line from 7-10. It was all worth it. ^_^

    My, my. I live in a small town in California, and today I wen for a Wii. They were all gone, and they told us people had camped out overnight. In such a small area, with all of them gone in 15 minutes, the Wii must be headed to be a huge success.

    Well today was very interesting, I got to Toys R Us at Times Square (In New York) around 9:30 am i think or 10. I saw a huge line of people already there, sum had camping gear (something that idk why I wasn't shocked to see that). So I go around the block all the way to the back of the line (by the way the line had about 140+ deep in the front already).

    It was funny how there was sum racist lady cursing out at one of the guys in the line, all the did was laugh at her and she seems like she was goin to throw them a chair, but she never did and again everyon was laughin at her, she was lucky the cops didnt arrest her.

    It took like a couple of hours to get to the front(at that time as soon as Toy R Us opened at 11am and the PS3 pre orders were gone in like around an hour, there were still Wii preordersand should be enough from everyone in the line.) The strange thing I saw was that one of the employees had a stash of cards that they were giving out for the preorders of the Wii, I was #208 with the card. I went downstairs and preordered it and left. The crazy thing I heard while I was downstairs from one of the employees was that they said that they would have 10,000 (Yes...10,000) Wii consoles at launch at that store. It kinda makes sense since they are doing the Nintendo Wii Launch party over at Times Square and for the fact that this is the only Toys R Us Store in Manhattan.

    oh yeah... i heard sum people were camping out since thursday night.......wtf?

    I arrived at 6am for the 10am opening and was 17th in line. My Toys R Us had 7 of the 60GB PS3s and 1 of the 20GB, along with 20 Wii. There were also a surprising number of people there for the TMX Elmo as well. I'd say that by about 8am enough people were there for all of the console preorders.

    4 hour wait for my Wii preorder. After having lived through a 22 hour wait for the 360 last year, it's much better to be able to sleep normal hours on launch day and just drive down in the morning to pick it up.

    The closest toys r us' near me, sold out of preorders within 30 minuts of opening. the lines were huge. I couln't get one.

    14th in line... 15 pre-orders available. Same day as the PS3 pre-orders and the release of TMX Elmo... lotta people camped out. If I didn't forget about daylight savings time, I wouldn't have gotten a Wii. Going to bed now.

    Went to toys r us yesterday & there were already 15 people on line since friday night & then saw the sign on the window that said they are only getting 11 ps360gb,1 20gb & 40 Wii's so i was like blah i'm out too cold to stand in line anyways , this was in Queens N.Y.

    I can't believe people camped out (in some nasty weather in the midwest too) to get a preorder for the Wii. Apparently nobody got the memo that they are making millions of them.

    In the UK game didnt promote when they where going to start taking preorders, so i just went in every day once play.com started taking them and was lucky enough to be the 7th person to preorder mine.

    Most people in the UK are stupid and dont think about preordering so i manage to get my smart hands on everything first time round.

    Just drove out to my TRU, was totally outclassed by the squatters already there. They had a little shanty town set up for at least several hours, there were at least 10 people there, probably 12, I just laughed and drove back home. Guess I'll try to nab one at Wal-Mart/Target/Best Buy on launch day instead. :/

    The nearest Toys 'R Us to me is about 35 minutes away, and while I've got this weekend off, that's just too far to drive to possibly find I'm still too late. . .As much as I hate to rely on it, I'm going to wait and see what my local Wal-Mart does (if anything) for the Wii.
