F.E.A.R. Combat is H.E.R.E.

Sierra releases the gratis multiplayer mode of its popular PC shooter, which is now available for download on GameSpot.

Last week, Vivendi Games subsidiary Sierra Entertainment announced it would release the multiplayer portion of its popular PC horror shooter F.E.A.R. over the Internet for free. The gratis download, dubbed F.E.A.R. Combat, would be available on August 17--the birthday of Robert De Niro, Sean Penn, and Marcus Garvey, among others.

One week later, F.E.A.R. Combat has hit the Web. It will allow gamers who don't own an actual boxed copy of F.E.A.R. to take on those that do online with an arsenal of 12 weapons. The download contains 19 multiplayer maps but will support the download of user-created content such as original maps and mods. It also has 10 different gameplay modes and will contain the same anticheating software as the boxed copy of the game.

F.E.A.R. Combat is available via GameSpot Downloads but requires users to go to the game's official Web site for a keycode. For more on the full-fledged F.E.A.R., which was named GameSpot's Best Shooter of 2005, read the full review of the PC version of the game. F.E.A.R is also set to arrive on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 later this year.

    hey yea
    this is a GREAT awesome game and all and i am really planing on buying it and all but when i tried to download this mulitplayer thing it whenever it's installing one of the "DefaultFeature"'s have a catostrofic faliure and i wanted to lno if anyone had any suggestion's?

    i don't know fear combat is a multiplayer game and i downloaded it.
    my internet connection speed is 512kbs. And i can't play it.And also i don't know how to play a multiplayer game.

    Sweet..F.E.A.R singleplayer was awesome and wus a great presence in the world of FPS. Though i wus never to get it to work online (downloaded it)..i finally get the chance to play online. SWEET!!

    people who cant afford to buy games all the time deserve something like this to make them feel better.

    I've downloaded the FEARCombat and i enterd the key that i received by mail but when i try 2 start the game i get the "A required security module can not be activated..." message.
    Can some1 help me please?
    Is there any patch for this?
    I know it's a free game...

    This is so awesome, half a game free, wat else could u ask for. Btw if u are having trouble getting the key look in your emailinbox it shud be there they don't tell u but its been sent to u.

    This is cool because my DVD-ROM has trouble reading my F.E.A.R DVD, which means getting into a multiplayer game is difficult for me because you need the disc in the drive....

    BUT NOT ANYMORE!

    The only issue i have with the multiplayer is that hand to hand combat is the strongest weapon, there are guys just running around punching people and winning the matches.

    jburde lol why would u download it if you have the boxed copy..its just the multiplayer portion of the game with all the patches and everything installed with it.

    I tried out a few rounds and while it doesn't do anything truly inspirational for multiplayer it has a good feel to it and it's easy to pick up on.

    Worth a download if you liked quake or a more simple shooter.

    gamershell.com has it up for download and it's pretty fast. It max'd out my DSL connection at 300k
