NBA Street crosses over to PS3, 360

Gravity-defying streetball game hits new courts in spring 2007; game headed to PS3 and Xbox 360 only, no current-gen versions planned.

While Electronic Arts' NBA Live series sees annual editions of its basketball simulation game hit stores near the onset of the NBA season, there isn't a regular schedule for its streetball counterpart, NBA Street. However, a new edition appears roughly every other spring, and EA seems to be sticking to the semi-schedule.

Next-gen NBA Street

The new NBA Street will be more 'Melo.

The next edition of NBA Street, which has not yet been named, is set to ball in spring 2007. The game will continue the three-on-three gameplay familiar to the series, but not necessarily on the courts gamers are used to. So far, the game has been announced for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and an EA rep has confirmed that it will be on those platforms only.

"The power of the next-generation hardware gives us the horsepower to break new ground for consumers, making it the perfect stage for the next iteration of NBA Street," said Wil Mozell, executive producer of the game.

Details on the game are about as hard to track down as Allen Iverson in the open court, but it appears as though the new game will be set in a sort of "Basketball City, USA," and the goal will be to "put your hometown on the map." A description from EA says, "The newest iteration of NBA Street creates a hyper-real world that merges legendary courts with the hometown courts of your favorite NBA stars into one seamless city of streetball moments."

The next iteration of NBA Street has not yet been rated or priced.

I don't know why this game sucks. V3 is better than this game. Andre Miller an NBA All-Star? Damn! And no dunk contest or create a court! I've wasted my money for buying and time for playing such a crap.

Can't wait. Personally I liked all 3 for different reasons. The first just because of the outrageousness of it all and how much fun it was. The second since it added onto that and the gameplay was, well, perfect in every way. The third might have been a small step down in gameplay but having Bron, 'Melo, and D-Wade on the same team was pure bliss. The graphics for all of these games so far has been great, so I can't wait to see what advantages they take with the next-gen systems.

Surpriseing that the next NBA Street will be for only next - gen game consoles only it should be for all systems that would make it mush easier.

The first one was good, the second was excellent, and I traded the 3rd one in 2 days after I bought it. Hopefully the new one will put the series back on track, it used to be a lot of fun.

The game play of Vol. 2 was perfection. It didn't transfer to 3. If they can recreate that with online mode and far superior graphics this game will be a slam dunk. Harde har har.
Edit: DJ Cucumber Slice better be making a comeback and bringing the figs one more time.

I like gunbaboy's comment about the Wii. I'm getting really tired of seeing the same game over all the consoles available right now. There is not fun anymore in that, I think. Also this one seems like a good game now. I just can't wait to see the real deal on this game.

  • pungaboy

    Posted Aug 8, 2006 3:20 pm PT

It's funny to me how people hum and haw about how not all their favourite games are being ported over to the Wii.... I think that's the whole point! I think the coolest thing about the Wii is that your're going to be getting completely unique game experiences and unique games on that platform. I LOVE that the titles that most companies (EA included) are bringing over to the Wii are being treated as seperate and unique projects and not as mere ports of existing games with a different controller layout. So yeah, not every game is going to make it onto the Wii, but would you rather have a console that gets a lot of ports of next-gen games, or a console that gets an entirely different set of games, specifically tailored to it's hardware?
