Capcom: SF2 fastest-selling XBLA game
Publisher says that one-on-one fighting game has seen "phenomenal record of downloads" since launching on Wednesday.
It was shortly after 1 a.m. PST on Wednesday morning that a chorus of "Round One...Fight!"s erupted across Xbox Live. After a few bumps in the road, Capcom's classic arcade game made it to Xbox 360s, and gamers were apparently ready for some online brawling.
Capcom today announced that Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting has become the fastest-selling Xbox Live Arcade title to date. The publisher claims that the highly anticipated game became the fastest-selling XBLA game in its first 24 hours, "with hundreds of matches being played every hour."
Hyper Fighting is an Xbox 360 port of the wildly popular classic arcade fighter that sucked quarters back in the early 1990s. The Xbox 360 version is now available for download for 800 Marketplace points ($10), and features the single-player game as well as online head-to-head matches.
Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting is rated T for Teen. For more information on the game, read GameSpot's review.

There are no "shoto clone scrubs" in SF2:HF. My tier is Ken,Guile,Ryu,Sagat, and Bison.

What a revival. All of the big time fighters such as Killer Instinct, World Heros, Samurai Shodown, Mortal Kombat, and KOF should come to XBLA.
The big time games from the 90's, hopefully, will come to XBLA. SF2 exploited the market for popular arcade games from the 90's. It's a great thing, I hope there is more to come.

I truly believe that this is probably one of a hand full of games that hold a special place in the hearts of gamers who grew up in the early 90’s. I mean I ran remember spending just about all my allowance playing SFII, MK, and Killer Instinct. Remembering the rush when a person was foolish enough to put a quarter in the arcade and challenge my skills. I really appreciate the way game consoles have progressed, but those were the days. If you were not around to experience the arcade at its glory… well all I can say is you missed the golden age of gaming.

All you naysayers need to repent and worship the ground that Capcom walks on. I didn't play the original arcade version but I rocked the hell out of SFII: Turbo on the SNES. The difficulty is same. SFII: Turbo on max difficulty was just as tough. I'm yet to experience any form of lag. The online play has been smooth as if it's 2 player on my console. Yesterday I had some great matches. Even had a couple double KOs. Hopefully I can master my Dragon Punch like did back then.

SFII deserves it. This game is awesome and lag-free for me online.
$10 well spent. Go, MS!
Thank you, MS, for bringing back old skool gaming!

You really give yourself too much credit to think that I really care what your opinions are. It would have saved you the time to post the obligatory retort. If you want to take time to whine about how the 360 hasn't lived up to your expectations, I am just pointing you in the direction where such like minded individuals like yourself reside and the hint is that you won't find many of them on this comment section.
Crunch is right and Capcom knows this and they also know that as long as people are buying they are content to skirt along with as little effort as possible in regards to the Street Fighter franchise.

K1LLSWITCH: Everybody allready knows your agenda towards any other system that's not a PS, with a special focus to each one who can hurt the sales of the company that you've got plenty of shares of (or something, like just... you know... fanboysm), so you should create another account here at GS, or your opinion is not very liable.
See, nobody that owns a 360 allready cares much if PS3 sells good or bad, we allready have a system that's here to stay, + 5 millions is a life insurance anywhere, and that is something that PS3 still need to proove.
Me personally, I hope PS3 succedes, and bring some good stuff to the audience just like 360 is doing, like for instance with Marketplace.

Too bad no amount of profit is going to make Crapcom revive Street Fighter (revive as in "continue" not as in "repackage an old one once or twice a year"). Capcom doesn't care about fan followings, and they already gave up the Street Fighter franchise to the American wing and those fools have been doing nothing with it for years, and are expected to do nothing more than continue the trend of farting out the same game on whatever new platforms arrive.
Bring on Street Fighter IV already. I think I'll skip this download and save up for Garou when it finally arrives on North American PS2s.

I downloaded it within minutes of it being released.
Strangely, I waited till the next day before I commited the 800 points to purchase it.... all other "classic arcade" games I have downloaded I have unlocked immediately.
Thank you to Greg too for letting us know that we can achieve achievements on the lower difficulty settings.
On the defaults I only managed to win a single match, and only with E-Honda's slapping attack (generous amounts of button mashing were applied). Unfortunately this tactic failed against the second opponent, Chun-Li.

"Were you talking? Oh, well to respond these types of boards were created for opinions from gamers. These boards are not made for fanboys of a specified console. I made an opinion, you don't like it, life goes on. If I hurt your feelings get a tissue. It'll be ok."
I don't think they were made for 'haters' of a particular console either. Fair enough if none of the Xbox 360 titles so far have caught your attention, but plenty of people- myself included- are pretty impressed with the lineup that the 360 has to offer so far, and theres some even better looking games in the pipeline. Just lately MS is really pushing the Xbox Live Marketplace, and I think the push is great. Theres so much content on there already I'm starting to struggle to fit it all on my HD, which can only be a good thing.
back to the topic... must say Im a bit dissapointed with the port. I don't have any problems with the controller- I think the 360 config works great, personally- but Capcom really don't seem to have put much effort into the port at all.
Still, its an undeniably great game that still stands strong.

These Sega Channel style games are supposed to make up for the lack of content Microsoft has until the fall? Unbelieveable. But wait Gears of War is going to knock everyone's socks off! I'll believe that when I see it. So far all the games that the Xbox brand has doesn't make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I don't think they'll ever will. If I'm in need for a big paper weight I'll give Bill Gates a call.

I played this game to death in the early nineties as an arcade game. It was hard then, it's hard now. I got really good at it then, but that was over 13 years ago. On XBL, can't get past the second fight- DAMN oh well , it only cost 10 bucks

"I dunno about anyone else, but I don't think this game has held up well over the years. "
Now, this is something I didn't think I would read in a board with the title "SF2 fastest-selling XBLA game." But what do I know? I've been playing and loving Street Fighter since the days of the bowling alley arcade. (Sadly, way before many of XBLA's patrons were born.)

Like I said, the Japanese market has snubbed the 360 and the original XBOX. The Japanese videogame market is notorious for lack of support for anything not by Sony or Nintendo and it is a known and documented fact. The Xbox has sold poorly in Japan mainly because Microsoft was unable to enlist enough local developers to cater to Japanese interests. It's not like they didn't have the money to entice them. The large size of the hardware itself did not endear itself to the size-sensitive Japanese consumers. It is estimated about 450,000 units have been sold in Japan. So do you think Microsoft didn't think about that when they launched the 360? Didn't think so. And seeing as how the DS and the PSP is selling like hotcakes over there now just think of what will happen when the Wii and the PS3 comes out? That's even less marketshare for them so Microsoft is catering to their strengths by catering more to it's American user base. In any case it would not be a good idea for Capcom to release this version over there as there are way too many purists who would pick the game apart for obvious reasons. Anyway I hope Microsoft takes notice and adds emulation software for the Anniversary Edition and Capcom takes notice and makes a Street Fighter 4 in 2D form.

"Hhhmm why did they "snub" Japan? Probably because Japan has snubbed the XBOX and 360."
When the 360 has some decent games that actually appeal to Japanese gamers then the 360 may then have some margin of success in Japan. How would a new Japanese console with virtually nothing but Japanese RPG's making up it's catalogue fare in the U.S.? Marketplace has also been pretty lax with most of the content being put not even being translated for Japanese users. How's that for snubbing your user base? Do you fancy playing through all your marketplace demo's and watching all your trailers in Japanese with no idea what's goin on? No thought not.
It's extremley odd that games like Cloning Clyde and Frogger get released (Without any Japanese translation.) but then they don't release Street Fighter. It's not like they'd have to even translate anything since they haven't bothered in the past. Either way from what I understand it wasn't Microsoft's decision to not release it in Japan but Capcom's.

They need to patch this or do something soon, The timing is off. the sound is not right.
There is some sort of screen filter like they just porjected the game on to some kind of emulation rather than total conversions of the code.
The port on SNES was totaly recoded It had to be because there SNES did not have the power now they ARE just getting LAZY.
This looks more like they are using emulation for everything I do not call that "porting."
This is street fighter 2 Turbo the best fighter ever, it made arcades populated it should be recoded to work exactly right, this is one game you do want to make perfect or People will complain. If that means getting the worlds master net Code person then They should DO it.
It looks better than the snes but only because it is the Arcade I still rather Like theSNES cart better. I from what I have seen there IS lag I have not bought it yet.
I used to play this back on Xband the 16 bit SNES 56k modem and it runs almost the same lag and all in the same spots that is sad.

I've got one thing to say: OMF 2097.
SF2? Meh. OMF, though, that game rocked, PC or no. Unlockable secrets galore, AI that scaled evenly from boring to impossible, sw33t tunes, and let's not forget the tournament mode. No one's ever matched it, and after the disappointment of Battlegrounds, I doubt anyone ever will.

As cheap as the AI is, it will never be as bad as Super SF 2 Turbo. Now that game was virtually unplayable. Even with top tier characters like Bison(US) Vega, ChunLi I could barely make it past the third fight. Fei Long was uber-cheap!
With the previous incarnation, (Super) I smoked the hell out of it with low-tier guys like Honda or Dhalsim.
What I didn't like aboot the SNES version was it was nothing like the arcade version, AI wise.
