World Tour Golf tees up new name

GameSpot's Best of E3 sports game nominee drives old name out, chips in ProStroke Golf: World Tour 2007 to reflect swing mechanic.

Ask any hack who walks the links weekly, and he'll say the game of golf is all about precision. Though the same isn't often said about the process of naming games, an accurate name can give potential suitors an idea of what the game has in store.

UK-based Oxygen Interactive is hoping its decision to change the name of World Tour Golf will entice a few more gamers to take a swing at their product. The golf sim, which was nominated for GameSpot's Best Sports Game of E3, has been redubbed ProStroke Golf: World Tour 2007.

The new name was designed to more accurately reflect the nature of the game; not because golfers won't be globe-trotting, but because of the game's unique swing mechanic.

"Continuing with a generic name that had started as a working title short-changed the game," said Oxygen CEO Jim Scott. "Pro Stroke Golf, on the other hand, puts the game's greatest feature right into the title..."

ProStroke Golf: World Tour 2007 is currently set for release in North America this August on the PlayStation 2 and the Xbox. PC and PSP versions have been announced for the European market, but not yet for the US.
