Arts festival seeks creative uses of media from professionals and amateurs alike; previous honorees include Nintendogs, Shenmue.
An announcement posted today on the 10th Japan Media Arts Festival Web site announced the submissions period for the festival is August 1 through October 20. The festival itself runs between February 24 and March 4, 2007, and "will accept applications from every sphere and will not make distinctions between professional, amateur, independent productions, commercial productions, etc." The event's Web site describes its focus as "creative media artworks utilizing the latest expression technology." In the past, this has often meant games, with Nintendo's Nintendogs netting the Excellence Prize in the entertainment division last year. Other games awarded kudos at previous festivals include Final Fantasy VII, Intelligent Qube, Silent Hill, Project: Seaman, Dragon Quest VII, Shenmue, Pikmin, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, and WarioWare: Twisted.
