E3 06: Size Matters for Ratchet and Clank

In keeping with series tradition, the portable debut of Sony's platforming duo gets a cheeky new subtitle.
By Brendan Sinclair, GameSpot
Posted Apr 25, 2006 5:58 pm PT

The Ratchet and Clank series of games is known for its slightly off-kilter sense of humor, an aspect that has surfaced in some of the series' subtitles; the second Ratchet and Clank game on the PlayStation 2 was "Going Commando," while the third one was "Up Your Arsenal." The fourth title in the series, Ratchet: Deadlocked, carried a less suggestive subtitle, and perhaps not coincidentally, didn't sell quite as well as its predecessors.

But just as Sony is promising a return to the franchise's platforming gameplay roots, so too is it once again using thinly veiled innuendo for the subtitle. A representative of the publisher confirmed for GameSpot that the series' PlayStation Portable debut will be called Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters. For more on Size Matters, check out GameSpot's pre-Electronic Entertainment Expo impressions of the game, and expect more coverage once the big show kicks off next month.

"just a Supr Mario 64 clone anyway. and people get excited over this second-rate platforming? yeesh. try a decent franchise people."
ROFLCOPTER!
Since when did Mario wield nuclear bomb guns? Lol it's so different than SM64 it isn't even funny.

And whoever says it's an overrated platformer... tell me a platformer that surpasses it.

It seems that such a blatantly explicit title would hurt sales not help them. How many parents are going to get their kid this game for their birthday?

going commando = no underwear under your pants (or skirt for that matter )
subtitle = funny because it's a portable game, children, so it's kind of a refresher for an old saying.
I think the subtitles always were quite funny (except deadlocked obviously), we need some irrreverent humor in this politically correct world of ours. it also lightens the mood set by all these gory and sweary "realistic" games which seem to be the norm nowadays.

I bought all the previous games, but didn't buy Deadlocked because it focused more on multiplayer (which I always thought sucked in this game)

How original..

This was also the "tag line" used when promoting the movie "Godzilla" - good tag line then, even though it was used for one of the worst movies to ever grace any screen. Now, however, it's not so unique. Perhaps they should concentrate on infusing something fresh in to the series, as Up You Arsenal has already proven..it desperately needs.

ok they may be overrated or whatever but isn't a good thing that we are getting good games for the psp? We where gameless for quite a few months and now that we have good games coming we justr whine and whine. Just be glad that the psp is getting at least some games.

I'd hate to see the ads with those damn squirrel's, the one's that were doing the "I'd hit that." Otherwise, I'd like that to play it.

Yeah really what's so funny about "size matters", that joke's so old I can't even remember a time when I ever thought it was funny. It doesn't even count as innuendo any more, I mean at least the other games give you an idea of what the game is about (blowing stuff up).

Like the series, and the low-brow subtitles. I tend to take a little humor with my fun. "Ratchet & Clank: Whoopdie-Doo Adventure of Fun!" wouldn't really work as well, sadly.

I hope this game will have great multiplayer games to play on it.

I hope it will be the one where you can vs some one from another place and not the one where you have to play with them in the same room.
