E3 06: Red Steel confirmed for Revolution launch

Ubisoft officially announces its first game for Nintendo's next-gen platform; says game will be at E3 and take advantage of motion-sensing controller.

Less than a week after it was first revealed, Red Steel now officially exists. Ubisoft today announced that it is indeed developing an action game for Nintendo's next-generation console, the Revolution.

As rumored, the game will feature a combination of swordplay and gunfire, which will make use of the Revolution's controller. Also, as suspected, Red Steel's gameplay will be so dependent on said controller's motion-sensing functionality that it will be exclusive to the platform. "We have been working closely with Nintendo to take full advantage of the innovative controller to create a thrilling experience that can only exist on the Revolution," said Serge Hascoet, Ubisoft's chief creative officer.

Today's announcement, though, was not just a retread of previously known information. Ubisoft revealed that the game will indeed be a launch title for the Revolution, which Nintendo is targeting to go on sale in North America by Christmas. "Nintendo is excited to have Ubisoft bring Red Steel to the Revolution launch lineup," said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's outspoken executive vice president of sales and marketing.

Ubisoft also dropped the first details about Red Steel's plot. Set in contemporary Japan, the game will make players "master both the ancient art of the katana and the sophisticated technology of modern firearms, taking advantage of the emotion and immersive gameplay possible only with the Revolution's remarkable controller."

Ubisoft also announced its intention to make Red Steel a franchise in the same vein as its popular Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia series. It promised to "disclose more specific information on Red Steel in the coming months" and to show off how it would work with its controller at the forthcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo next month.

am guessin since zelda is comin out for gamecube, you'll be able to play gamecube games on wii, so no need to get two same games again, would be pointless

umm.....why would the revolutions stay the same. The cube proved that it could surpass most other consols later with RE4.......what makes this one different....

Yeah but MarioB, remember that in the first wave of game releases the graphics aren't the best as they could be on a new console, what most people are saying is that later on in a year or two or more the 360's and PS2's graphics will noticably improve while the revolution will still be as it was at launch.

That aside, I surely don't careabout supreme graphics. I wouldn't care if every video game from now until I die looked as good as they do currently I am still fine. I just want some nifty kickass gameplay!

The name change was a bad idea, but other than that, I'm psyched about the new Nintendo system. Something fun to do, right? Killing stuff seems like a second job anymore... Thank you video game industry.

Well, here are the First Screens from the New Game From Ubisoft: Red Steel...

    http://home.btconnect.com/hgi/nintendo-ds/revolution-red-steel.html

I think the Game Looks ACE, and graphics are pretty impressive, even though people think that Nintendo will dont have that good graphics, but if you compare them to Xbox 360 games they are as good...
And i hope that gamers and eventually developers will change their minds soon enough because they are all focused on Games graphics rather than Gameplay, and the result is that most of the games the past few years are all the same and only Nintendo is trying to bring good gameplay to games, but Sony and Microsoft Policy are killing the Video Game industry.
sure i like good graphics too but we need inovating games, and the only thing we get is all the of the same...
Even if think that Nintendo is saying goodbye after the Nintendo Wii to the game industry, i still think there is a hope for a giant like this to come back on the race...
We gamers have the power to keep Nintendo Up so i hope that people will buy this Revolutionary Game Console...

VIVA LA REVOLUTION - N for NINTENDO !!!

I don' t think it will be the old games with a new jacket. With the new controller there are so much more possible! Nintendo knows better than that.

Nintendo Forever... I Do Believe That This System Will Top The Charts

  • mraj21

    Posted Apr 26, 2006 2:54 am PT

I had almost wrote off the company that made gameing a house hold thing until.....NOW....I think that the REV is gonna turn some heads just because it is something that we as gamers have never seen. I support no system 100% but the REV is shapein up alot nicer than I thought. I really thought that this would be Nintendo's last stand but now I am not so sure. Esspecially since I lost alot of respect for microsoft after the 360 disaster.

If I can sword fight with a motionsensitive controller, and shoot with it like a light gun, wow, could be impressive. If I can hack people's limbs off I'm sold.

yea, screen shots of this game are in the new Game Informer magazine... the graphics look better than I thought they would after seeing the weak system specs of the Rev! I'm quite surprised... and excited!

Red steel will be the ONLY serious game for the rev...Mario is played out they need to stop making games...

Microsoft has informed us that them and Nintendo have traded there beloved games...Halo for Legend of Zelda...

    And up next

The hero removes his mask from Halo 1 and 2 who is he????

    Its mario....

and Wait Link has gotten a make over and has stoped being childish and started Cursing and has gotten rid of that fruity sword and has gotten Dante's sword from Devil may cry.
