It's been known for a while that Activision has been carrying a concealed Gun. The publisher had no problem getting word out about its Western-themed shooter for current- and next-gen systems, hanging posters for the game at last year's E3, but nothing was spoken of a portable edition.

A PlayStation Portable version of the game was finally officially confirmed during a November earnings call, when it was revealed it would be released sometime later this year. Since then, all had been quiet on the Western front, with no other details, including the game's official name, publicly announced.

That's all changed today, as Activision shed some light on the game that brings the Old West to the PSP. Gun Showdown will be released this fall and is currently being developed by Neversoft, who worked on the console versions of Gun as well as the Tony Hawk games, and Rebellion Studios, the UK-based studio that worked on Sniper Elite and Dead to Rights: Reckoning.

According to Activision, Gun Showdown will be loaded with "all of the action contained in the console versions." The PSP version will also get a few new missions, as well as quick play and multiplayer modes designed strictly for the handheld.

Gun Showdown has not been rated or priced. For more info on the game, check out a review of the console version.
