Report: PS3 delayed until November

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun claims to have confirmed that Sony has pushed back release of its console due to Blu-ray disc issues.

Coming hot on the heels of this morning's official announcement of tomorrow's Sony press conference comes unofficial confirmation of what it will be about. The Wednesday edition of the Japanese business newspaper Nihon Keizai Shimbun is running an article titled "PlayStation 3 Rollout Postponed Until November."

As one might expect, the article confirms that Sony's next-generation console won't arrive until the fall in Japan. Citing an anonymous source, the article says the reason for the postponement--which has been widely predicted by analysts and executives--is that the electronics giant is having issues with the Blu-ray Disc format, which the PS3 uses. Even Sony spokespersons have acknowledged that a delay was a "possiblity," should such issues arise.

"Sony Computer Entertainment will delay the release of its PlayStation 3 next-generation video game console until early November because the copy-protection technology for the Blu-ray Disc has not been finalized," reported the paper. No specific regions were mentioned, making it unclear if the delay was for the Japanese PS3 or a worldwide release.

While authoritative in tone, it must be emphasized that the Nihon Keizai Shimbun report is in no way official. Though Sony's last-minute decision to change tomorrow's event from a closed-door presentation to a full-fledged press conference augurs a major announcement, Sony is staying mum. When contacted by GameSpot, a Sony Computer Entertainment America rep declined comment, saying "we have not made any new announcements on PlayStation 3."

Yeah... M$ got their system out and 15% are defective in some way... Man I'm sick of Sony haters.
    ---------------------------------------------------------

    LOL!

    1) Sick of Sony haters but it's OK to say false things about Microsoft & the 360? So that makes you?

    2) Please send links/proof to back up this 15% defective rate claim. Otherwise, this claim falls into part #1 of this reply.

If this is true when it comes out it has to be a world launch or that is real bad.I hope also they will use this time to make the launch game the best they can.I am sad that this will most likely be true but if when comes out and the games arre great I will be real happy.

Call me crazy, but I don’t believe that PS3 is coming in November either. If it does though, PS3 will not sell for under $699.99. And that’s with out a modem or a hard drive.

15% of the systems are not defective. Don't know where you got that number from but your wrong. The law states that any company has a 3-5% defective rate before a recall is kicked into affect. If Microsoft had a 15% deffective rate then there has to be a recall which has never happened. Microsoft has had problems with some of their systems at launch but it isn't any where near 15% it's 5% or below.

The PS3 being delayed isn't nothing new. It was reported weeks ago if not longer that a delay was coming. Sony is just now making it official is all. Anyone who knows about gaming knew the PS3 has had alot of problems lately. The delay was coming a mile away. PS3 will hit North America in the 1st Quarter for the US. Putting it around Janurary-March 2007. If they do decide to launch in Nov. along with the Japan release there will be shortages.

If Sony gets away with this, then we'll know that the world hates Microsoft. But I honestly don't see how they can pull it off this time... Other possible drawbacks: 1. It may have a bad gamepad. 2. It may be expensive. 3. It may need a lot of time to get a good game library. 4. It may contain hardware faults. 5. Blue-Ray will not be the next standard 6. Online may be bad compared to 360. 7. We'll see big developers like Rockstar, square and others go bisexual. hmmmmmmm.. ok I'll go for the alternatives

Im for one am happy that its delayed: why you ask?
    1) More time to get more money
    2) More movies and game lineup
    3) more time for developers to enhance the game
    4) Possible lower price?

Well, if the Japanese people get it November 2006, us PAL region gamers ( mostly Australia/New Zealand) will probably get it early-mid 2007.

Sony overdone the PS3, unlike the 360 which has technology everyone is capable of using.

    I'm not getting a PS3, I am getting a revo. Maybe later a 360.

But Nintendo fans just suffered from TP delay and I will tell you guys the same thing I told them.

It's worth the extra time if you want a better experince, because if they just rush it out it will have flaws and leaving you wanting for more.

Besides it gives you time to buy the 360 or Revo if you want to while you wait, catch up on PS2 games try a GCN or orignal XBox. Buy a PSP or DS. This may not neccesearly be a bad thing.

Sony...Sony, Sony, Sony. Will this be the end for them? No, but now they're going to be forced to play catchup that much more so with the 360. Releasing the system a year plus at a higher price...they're gonna have troubles....

oh and i think sony should bail on the blu-ray, and stick with DVD for PS3. i understand what theyre doing, trying to hype blu-ray and all, but i dont think its going to have much of an effect.

If I were a developer/publisher, I would make my next-gen game for XBOX360. I would probably be saving money and time by not having my programmers code for three different video cards and processors. Also, who knows how the online systems for PS3 and Rev are going to work. LIVE is already established. The PS3 delay would hinder my schedule and the respective revenue I would have gained if I was going to introduce a launch game is now lost until Nov. 9 months of zero profit... that's not good.

Truth be told, I'd rather wait until the technology is in good working order. I guess this just adds some fuel to 360 fanboys' fire. I have something to say about it though. You see, the PS3 doesn't feel like it's being rushed. Patience is often considered a virtue, but many people don't have enough of it. The gaming business has changed dramatically over the last 10 years. And while people's expectactions continue to rise, so does the cost and time it takes to develop a quality product.

While some people will call the XBOX360 a rush job, that's not necessarily true. The system came out with great expectations. And only a few companies had enough time to come out with a quality game without porting a game from the original XBOX. Had the game developers had more time, the games would be better.

The PS3's delays come as nothing new in the way of news. I'm actually a little excited about it. This allows game companies to spend more time on a game that is being released on system at a later date than previously expected.

Personally, since the majority of GS users (complete and basic alike) have little or no knowledge of what goes on behind the closed doors at game development companies and the respective hardware developers, we should cut them some slack. We don't want someone telling us how to do our jobs, so we shouldn't be complaining when someone pushes the date back to ensure a quality product is delivered to the consumer.

First of all for those who don't care about sony and care about that crapy rev. Please don't write here. Second I dissopointed I was hoping to get ps3 in spring and now I need to wait for f*** fall? or even more? Probably i should upgrade my PC or buy a 360. Anyways when sony will launch that super machine that they promise to us. I have no idea when it gonna be I don't even hope for fall. 360 games will be as good as ps3 or even better, and there will a lot more games for 360. My guess sony will lose to mc in sales most likely.

Microsoft's early launch was shaky at first, but look how great everything is today? Ghost Recon is out, Elder Scrolls coming, Fight night round 3 is crazy , dead or alive 4, pgr 3 so many great titles.

The 360 is still on track to becoming the fastest selling console in the world.

This is still not official, but very likely to happen. Big blow to PS. I know its good so it will be cheaper when it comes out but MS will be able to drop the price on the 360 by then just to counter the launch. 300 for premium and 200 for Core. Very likely to happen. This is simple and I have posted this before, Sony lied about Launch to keep people from buying a 360, and MS let the shortage happen only to make Sony Delay. This is expected since these companies are fighting for customers. And Next-Gen did start this month Since the Quality 360 games are now coming out. GRAW is a perfect example. We will all see when Sony officially states this.

Right now, I don't really care. Sure I really want a PS3, but seeing all these delays and everything has just made me tired of this stupid console war. I just want them to release it when its ready. Whenever that may be. Too bad if its into next year. I've just grown tired of being pinned in this ridiculous console war.

Wow whats a suprise (NOT).To be honest this Sony are in a bit of trouble...reason being that BLUE RAY is something of an unknown entitiy...there is a war between these two formats (blue ray & HD DVD) and still the outcome to that is unknown as both formats are still to be released officialy.I personaly think HD DVD makes more sense as current DVD software would be compatible with new HD DVD hardware...& i know some may say that blue ray offers more quality however i personaly doubt that it would be significantly better. As far a PS3 is concerned.....Sony have realised that their one game per console anti piracy system is a BIG mistake.......I dont need to explain why. Also they have pushed so hard to be technicaly ahead that production cost is through the roof.....& I bet that the PS3 will in no way be anywere near as advanced as hype suggests....this has been proven before during the pre release of PS2.The Sega Dreamcast is living (or was living) proof of this....just take a look at the software on both PS2 & DC and any educated fool would see that the DC had far superior graphical qualities.....just look at Dead or Alive 2 on these two consoles to compare graphical rendering, but Dreamcast (and Xbox)was by no means light years ahead (except for online capabilities). So to end this story off i say if you want a PS3 be patient.......but please dont be a fool and expect it to be light years ahead of say...Xbox 360....because it cant be - the technology is not all that different.....and to be honest i am more exited about the custom built multi core hardware that 360 has...because it makes more sense from a programing point of view.....just wait and see what i mean.
