PS2 God of War 2 confirmed

New issue of Game Informer confirms rumors that Kratos will return to Sony's current-generation console.

Last month, rumors spread that God of War was getting a sequel. The source of the scuttlebutt was a report on Eurogamer.net, which cited leaked Sony Computer Entertainment Europe marketing materials that revealed the untitled follow-up to the now-budget-priced actioner would be released in the US next February.

However, the marketing materials allegedly said that, like God of War, its sequel would be released for the PlayStation 2. Though the first game's current-generation graphics wowed critics, the Eurogamer.net report dashed hopes that the series might debut on the PlayStation 3, which sports a much beefier GPU.

When the article--which was removed under legal threat from SCEE--broke, Sony Computer Entertainment America reps dismissed it as "rumor and speculation." However, this week, anyone who has seen a copy of Game Informer magazine now knows that God of War 2 is indeed in the works. On its cover, the new issue of the Minnesota-based monthly proclaims that "Kratos returns to the PlayStation 2."

Since its release in March 2005, God of War has received many awards, including top honors at the 2006 Interactive Achievement Awards and GameSpot's PlayStation 2 Game of the Year prize.

    Wonder how the story will go. Especially considering he dies right at the beginning of the first game!
    By the way, I haven't fully completed the game so I wouldn't know if there's some cool twist that answers this question.

    Oh My God this is awesome i was hoping a sequel would come along. God of War is one of my all time favorite games, and the sequel has a lot to live up to, but this is just plain awesome!!!!!

    I doubt I'll get the PS3 either for a while, got and XBox 360 and shiny PC to keep me sufficiently in debt for now. Hey anyone defear GoW on God mode? It has to be impossible!!!

    its kinda cool that the are releasing it on ps2 because i probably wont buy a ps3 until the first price drop, i'll probably buy the revolution though because i always wanted to play smash brothers online

    it should release on PS3. No1 is gonna get it if it releases on ps2. every1 will hav new consoles in the next gen.

    All these sequels coming out on ps2 that sum of us think should be launch titles on ps3? Maybe its a sure sign that we'll finally hav a next-gen system coming out with some original titles (i can dream can't i?)

    GoW1 looked great on the PS2. I'm sure GoW2 will look just as good, or better. Sure, I'd like to see it for the PS3, but as long as we're getting a sequel, I'm happy.

    I really enjoyed the game. Especially the way puzzle solving was interlaced into the action sequences.

    NOOOOOOO!!! I already sold my PS2 to help with the cost of the PS3!! Now I'll hafto to buy another one just for this game. Hopefully it will release after the PS3 comes out and I can just play it on the PS3(if its backwards compatible!).GOW WAS AWESOME!!!!

    That's great news.. maybe this time we'll see the Icarus wings in action & we'll see the Brother that was hinted upon in the special ending of the original. Either way I'm really happy 2 hear about it.. Hopefully we'll get a Fall Release!

    GOW is going to be one of my first games I will buy when I get a PS2. The sequel will probably rock also! I can't wait (rubs hands impatiently).
