Lara Croft hitting PS2, Xbox, and PC April 11

Eidos finally firmly dates Tomb Raider: Legend for current-gen consoles and PC; PSP and Xbox 360 versions to come "shortly after."

The good news: Eidos Interactive has finally set a firm date for legendarily toned heroine Lara Croft's next adventure. After giving a vague April release window, the publisher announced that the game will ship on April 11 for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC in North America. (The UK gets it four days earlier, on April 7.) It is rated T for Teen and retails for $49.99 on consoles and $39.99 for the PC.

The bad news: PSP and Xbox 360 owners will have to wait longer to see the pistol-packin' Croft on their platforms. In its announcement, Eidos said Tomb Raider: Legend would arrive on Sony's handheld and Microsoft's next-gen console "shortly after" their current-gen console and PC counterparts. The publisher did not give a specific date, and online retailers weren't any help; GameStop still listed both the PSP and 360 versions as arriving April 11.

Developed at internal Eidos studio Crystal Dynamics, Legend aims to reinvigorate the Tomb Raider franchise following the poor performance of 2003's Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness. To aid in the effort, Eidos enlisted legendary designer Toby Guard, who helped out on the original Tomb Raider back in 1996. How did the developers do? Find out in GameSpot's new hands-on impressions of a near-final build of the game.

not a HUGE fan. 1st one was good, but never played it thru to end...

i WAS looking forward to this for the 360, but apparently its just vanilla xbox/ps2 textures, nothing too special.

looking forward to an xbox vs x360 review (with a slant to normal CRT not HDTV, still very dear here in the UK)

Awesome. I actually think that this one is truly Lara's REAL RETURN!
I really hope it's the one Tomb Raider that we were waiting for...

Like I see, Gamecube still gets NO love.

After watching the most current videos, I'm glad to see that Lara's back in the Tombs... Some great additions are the auto pick up's and more fluid movement. The areas look rich and beautifully detailed.

I've always been a Tomb Raider fan, and with this latest installment, it looks like I won't be disappointed.

I can't wait for this game. There is a whole new team working on it this time. It should be more exciting and easier to play. Lara will have more moves and animaitons than ever before. With these kinds of graphics it should prove to be a very beautiful game. Though I think it will be a rent before buy, because I have heard it is going to be a real short game.

As long as soon doesnt translate into months, I'm fine witht he delay..
I wonder why its always the 360 and PSP versions that get delayed though?

Maby they want to make some extra cash from the people who cant wait for the game and end up buying both the current and next gen versions..

They may have finally hit the nail on the head this time. With Toby Gard and the Crystal Dynamics team at the helm I can't see how this won't revive the currently stagnant series (knock on wood). I'll definately be following the development of this one.

Lara Croft Rocks !! All of the Tomb Raiders have always been action packed with beautifull graphics and intense thrilling worlds with puzzles which keep you up all night and late for work. I will defenitely own this one, I have long awaited it's new chapter, and from the looks of the game I trust this one won't be dissapointing.

So Tomb Raider is having another game made that isn't going to be on the gamecube. I don't think Tomb Raider has ever been on a nintendo system. Does any one know? Well as long as it's better then the last one it's all good.

I agree lewser5. I have the game in my watched list. It better be at least an 8 when GS reviews it if I'm going to buy it.

Tomb raider as a BIG hole to dig out of after the past few games. If it could bounce back from like DMC did with some great gameplay then I would consider buying it.

I lost interest in this franchise after the 3d game (PC). The fact that they are releasing it for PC and "current generation" consoles first, makes me think there will be nothing new when the "next-gen" versions come out.

Being that its from the makers of the Legacy of Kain saga (which i loved), i'm hoping they worked their magic and are able to make Tomb Raider a game worth geting. We can say this however, with 360 version coming out later, we get to see the reviews of the current gen platforms before shelling out 60 bucks for the 360 version. So this may be a blessing in disguise. But the bad part is if this game is a success, then we have to wait. But yeah, im hoping these guys make it worthwhile.

Actually, I hope they did take a little from Prince of Persia. I used to love this series but the control was annoying to say the least. It's always had the potential to be an outstanding series but they kept screwing it up. From the previews though, it looks like this one's going to be great. Count me in.

The 360 version will redeem lara and draw as much hype to the series as there was back when tomb raider was on the playstation.

IF the story is a good one.

Angel of Darkness was horrible, but I do need more 360 games to play, so I'll probably rent it. Crystal Dynamics makes pretty decen games though (like the Legacy of Kain and Soul Reaver series), so hopefully it will be good.

They should give everyone who bought AOD a free copy of this game to make up for the HUGE let down. I will wait til a price drop to buy this one, if its worth buying at all.

The game already smells to more-of-the-same, fresh-coat-of-paint sequel.
At least they took the silicons out of her.....
But as expected, it goes to the Port Supported Portable (PSP)

The first couple tomb raiders were great. After that they took an exponential drive, each game worse than the other. HOPEFULLY this version will hold true to the Tomb Raider legacy!

I've been holding out for a great TombRaider game ever since the third instalment.

This one looks like it could be something special... so long as Lara sticks to her tombs! I hate it when they put her in cities/ports/Area54 etc! Those modern locations lose all of the magic for me.

hmm well i have liked the story plots that the crystal dynamic studios have put out with the bloodomen and soul reaver games, so if the game play is good maybe this game will be worth picking up. i think i will wait for the psp version though because i think this would be a better portable game.
