Report: Revolution hitting North America by Thanksgiving

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata tells Japanese newspaper the next-gen console will be in US homes for the holidays.

To date, Nintendo has been rather stingy with details about its next-generation console, the Revolution. So far, the Kyoto-based game giant has only unveiled a mock-up of the console and its new controller. It has also vaguely mentioned that several of its popular franchises, such as Super Smash Bros. and Metroid Prime, are going next gen.

Given the lack of information, speculation has mounted that the Revolution may not actually launch until 2007. Today, though, the company's head man debunked all rumors, stating that the console will make it in time for Christmas 2006.

In an interview featured in today's edition of Japanese newspaper Sankei Shinbun, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata stated, "We can't disclose the Revolution's release period yet, but we have no plans to miss out on the year-end sales battle. As for North America, we need to release it by Thanksgiving, or otherwise we won't receive support from the retail industry. So the Revolution will be released prior to that period."

Iwata avoided any specific comments about how much the Revolution would cost. However, he reiterated that the console will be reasonably priced. "The amount of money that people are willing to spend on videogames is getting less every year," he said. "Even if it's a superb machine, it's not going to sell if it's 50,000 yen ($434). We plan to make [the Revolution] an affordable price."

To date, Nintendo has never released a console above the price of 25,000 yen ($217) in Japan. Iwata also told the Sankei Shinbun that a working model close to the final form factor of the Revolution will be shown at E3 in May.

wii is awesome even though i'm a sonys fan but the wii is so much cheaper than the 360 and way cheaper than the ps3. I have way enough money by the time I can reserve it.

This is true realtime physics!!! The only game system to incorporate realtime physics via physical input on a mainstream console!!!!! And it is released in the US first. I will not complain at all, I just hope new RE releases play the way I think they will..

Samurai games should play awsome on this console too, I'm just hoping they put out a real 'adult' gory samurai game, the cutting off of heads, feet, arms, legs. ahhh just paradise, all the tension of life will go away for brief godlike moments.. This is what gaming should be, realtime physical interaction!!!! Bye bye dinosaur consoles....

I have to agree with SR201...I don't want to shell out a ton of cash for a ps3 considering I can pay probably less than 200 bucks for the system and maybe a game, it's great! Who knows it may be cheaper to get a revolution and a 360 rather than just a PS3. then again maybe PS3 won't even show up until 2007. Honestly who doesn't love nintendo, they made gaming an industry pretty much on their own.

I cannot tell you how happy this makes me! In fact I'd buy the Revolution just so I could play Metroid 3!!

Oh that and the fact that you can download any of the games from the NES,SNES and 64 and play em on the Rev!

YAAA YAAHOOO!(But wasent that system suppoesed to come out this month?(march)

*sigh* I love Nintendo so I can wait (sorta)

This is Awsome i think more people are anticipating and wanting to buy the Revolution rather than the PS3 due to the Big Price Difference between the 2 consoles. I want and cant wait for the Revolutution... what would you get?

Ok, so does this mean that gamers in Europe will get it at the same time? It better had. Its bad enough that some games dont get released in the EU yet they are released in NA and Japan without us getting consoles at the same time as everyone else. There is just as much demand for games in PAL countries as in NTSC countries.

At least the wait means some ppl will be able to save up for it. Unfortunately for Microsoft, their next-gen consle is awful - a rush job, no new titles or innovations - and all they have done is an Xbox clone with better graphics with the aid of a hi-def t.v that will cost ppl even more money. Ps3 is gonna be similar but better - no real innovations. But it will be a fight between Sony and Ninty. Only reason Sony and M'soft have done so well recently is because of the awful staleness of the games industry. But Ninty will put it right and save the industry, like it has done at least once before in the 80's

new controller, sexy design, great graphics, and awesome games, which i bet most are for sale at launch and all reason enough to buy the machine.
the cube was allways my console of choice.....just a shame develpoers didnt feel the same.

XBOX360 - nice enough looking machine.. but not one games i have liked on the machine so far, all allreadu released on lower machines, but has better graphics.
PS3 - seen nothing on but so far all i get it it looks like a kitchen tool.
and the pads show no comfort what so ever.
REVOLUTION - great looking machine, unique game pad, and you can bet every game out on realase will be amazing, plus all the good old ninty games ready for downloading.

PLEASE LET THIS BE NINTENDOS TIME TO SHINE

This is awesome cant wait. i think ill use the rev to wait 2 months to get my bday gift so i can get one at launch with a game (probably ssb if released at launch) and then for xmas get all the release titles i like.

and before you go and sell your gc...save the controllers for the games. the rev has controller ports for the gamecube games when you want yo play those on the rev.
