Final Fantasy XII PS2 bundle coming to Japan

PlayStation 2 emblazoned with art from Square Enix's upcoming RPG will go on sale in mid-March.

TOKYO--Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that it will release a special Final Fantasy XII bundle--called the PlayStation 2 Final Fantasy XII Pack--in Japan. Both the bundle and the Square Enix role-playing game that it commemorates will go on sale March 16. The bundle will be open price, meaning it has no MSRP.

The PlayStation 2 Final Fantasy XII Pack will include a charcoal black slimline PS2 console imprinted with a symbol from the game (pictured), a vertical stand, a Dual Shock controller, an AV cable, an AC adapter, and a special FFXII-branded strap for mobile phones. The package will also include a copy of Final Fantasy XII.

Consumers thinking of picking up the bundle should note that the slimline PS2 (SCPH-75000 FF) included in the bundle uses the latest hardware model, which has been reported to have issues in playing a number of PS2 and PlayStation games.

Sony has also begun accepting preorders for Final Fantasy XII at its official Web site.

Looks cool, but most people have a ps2 now and a new look isn't going to change the mind of people who don't.

In the UK, PS3 will probably be released before FFXII is.

I'm in the UK, so we probably will never get this (Just like Chrono Trigger... and Final Fantasy Tactics... and Radiata Stories... Sigh... F- you too, Square...), but you got to admit... it is pretty cool. I wouldn't know anything about the slimline PS2, cos i've still got my original PS2, which I bought about two months after the PS2 first came out. I still think there's a point in releasing this, provided it gets here before the PS3. The PSP and PS2 are outselling the Xbox 360, aren't they?

God willing FFXII will have no Taru-Tarus playing blitzball. As for outselling 360, I would hope a $50 game can outsell a $400 console.

Pretty cool item if you have the money to throw around. I have to admit I want it, but with PS3 and Revolution not too far off, there's no way I can afford to shell out that kind of cash for a special version of something I already have.

It wont affect PS3 sales at all. The only people who are going to buy this are hardcore collectors anyway, everyone already has a ps2 that wants one. Or if they dont have a ps2 yet its cuz they are one of the people who wait until the following generation to get the current generations hardware(money / arent super into gaming issues)

dragonblad3 - I'm guessing English isn't your native language? I can't even understand half of what you are trying to say. Please take more than 3 seconds when writing your responses to make sure they are at least half-way normal English.

petegrrrr, your bias undermines the credibility of everything you say. You aren't being clever or sharp by calling Chandley retarded and while Microsoft is having trouble producing 360's now, surely they will have sold millions more by the time this releases and have no trouble supplying the demand that is already out there. The FF franchise, however having many fans in Japan, does not sell nearly as well in the US (compared to the top titles from other genres). Using only the example of Japan in stating this game will outsell the 360 is like saying Halo 3 will outsell the PS3 in NA. Not only is it unlikely, but too early to tell and irrelevant overall. I do not have or love the XBOX or 360 and am the proud owner of a PS2, yet your words bring dishonor to the PS and the FF series as well. Save your console taunts for a console article.

2006 Launch has been confirmed by sony over and over again...no way it launches later than this year.... And also...they aren't making that many of these packages...so it wouldn't really effect the launch of the ps3. Sell some ps2''s in march, launch in april...nothing wrong with that........................................................But mainly, there gonna make like 2 thousand to ten thousand of these at most. It won't be big enough numbers to effect anything.

We all know we won't see a special edition anything here in the states unless it has to do with metroid, mario, or halo. I would love to get the FFXII package here but I'm not importing anything. And yes it would seem to be a really dumb move to sell such a hot item (specially in Japan) & launch a new system in the same month. So a 2007 launch wasn't a rumor afterwards.

I guess it'll give me more time to spend playing 360 till the PS3 come out.

Since Sony are highly unlikely to release such a high profile hardcore must have console special edition as this at the same as it would eat into the PS3 sales, does this strongly suggest that the PS3 isn't launching even in Japan this Spring? One more piece of information lending credibility to the rumour mill. Surely this should have been forming a special edition PS3 at launch. That would have really kicked off sales.

Oh well guess we're gonna have to wait a bit longer for the PS3 to arrive.

Chadley10....are you retarded? The xbox won't even have 4 million units shipped until the very end of the year. FFXII will sell 2 million copies in the first 2 weeks...IN JAPAN ALONE, LOL.

The 360 has no chance to outsell it, since square can ship millions of copies, while MS is stil struglling to ship thousands of 360's....

I love how they add in the part about the game being included at the end like it was an after thought, lol.

I really wish these sort of things would be released here, in the states. My classic cinder block sized PS2 is getting old, and it's not functioning 100% anymore. Replacing it with a slimline PS2 like this would be more than worth it to me, even if it costed a little extra.

Epyon_XO: Because we play FPS's and Madden instead of RPG's like the majority of Japanese gamers. And why did they screw us into getting the sushi full of veggies? FISH and RICE only people! maybe a little nori, but dip the fish, not the rice! baka

The old PS2 model is nice, yes. And yes The slim is not compatible with the PS2 HDD........pffftt, who am I kidding, unless you play FFXI on PS2 the slimline is the way to go. The problems it supposedly has are hit and miss anyway. Ive bought three slims so far (x-mas..my wallet is in pain...) and all of them have worked and are still working fine. If only theyd release this slimline FFXII version in the States (wishful thinking)...

Ok lets face reality. JAPAN GETS ALL THE COOL STUFF!!!!!!!!!!! First Godzilla and the following franchise, then sushi and now a FFXII PS2. Why don't the cool games and special systems cross the pacific and land here? We all want one we know it, they know it and my wallet fears it.
