As the gaming industry winds down after a busy year that saw the launches of the DS Lite, the PlayStation 3, and the Wii, so too will the staff at GameSpot pause for a breather. Most of us will be taking a break between now and Tuesday, January 2, 2007. A few of us will still be updating GameSpot with new content in the days ahead. You can also expect to see some of us lurking around the GameSpot forums.

To tide you over until 2007, GameSpot's massive Best and Worst of 2006 awards are up and running. The winners of the Special Achievement Awards, Dubious Honors, Genre Awards, and Platform Awards have already been announced, along with the GameSpot Game of the Year nominees. Check back this Friday at 4 p.m. Pacific to find out which game earns the coveted GOTY title.

This year's festivities also feature the debut of the new and improved Readers' Choice Awards. Readers can now weigh in with their own picks on most of the categories, voting for one of the GameSpot-chosen finalists or choosing their own write-in candidates. Voting will continue through January 18, 2007, and after that date all voters will earn a unique emblem in their profile. The Readers' Choice Awards winners will finally be revealed on January 26 at 4 p.m. Pacific.

Finally, there's still time to put GameSpot's 2006 Holiday Gift Guide to use if you're in need of last-minute gift ideas.

Once again, all of us at GameSpot wish you and your families a happy, safe holiday. We'll see you in 2007.
