People trying to navigate the world of gaming acronyms that includes MMOs, RE4s, and KOTOR will soon have a new jumble of letters to tangle with. Swiss publisher Freeze Interactive has announced that it will release what it claims to be the first FPSRTS, a combination first-person shooter and real-time strategy game. The game, titled Field Ops, is being developed by Digital Reality and is scheduled for release this November.

Field Ops delves into the world of counterterrorism, and will be spread across five different locations. According to a statement from Freeze, players will "Move into the fascinating world of antiterrorism and manage every aspect of gameplay from strategic planning to taking out the main bad guy with your sniper rifle."

The company has released seven screenshots of the game, which show squads of troops battling in marshlands and in cities surrounded by a desert. Screens show perspectives from both a traditional FPS and a RTS, but it's not clear how Digital Reality will work both into the game.

Field Ops has not yet been rated or priced. A teaser Web site has been launched, with more information promised in the future.
