Splinter Cell switching studios?
Film featuring superspy Sam Fisher could be slipping out Paramount's back door and infiltrating DreamWorks instead.
The film rights to Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell might be sneaking away from Paramount Pictures and over to DreamWorks, according to a Variety report.
After the project stalled at Paramount amid management shifts, Michael Ovitz, the film's producer and Tom Clancy's longtime manager, is reportedly close to a deal with Dreamworks, with Daniel Pyne attached to write the script. Pyne's previous work includes screenplay co-credits on the recent remake of The Manchurian Candidate and another adaptation of Clancy's work, The Sum of All Fears.
Previously, actor/writer/director Peter Berg (notable in front of the camera for his work on The Great White Hype and behind it on Very Bad Things and Friday Night Lights) had been pegged to handle the duties on Splinter Cell, but Variety reports he has since left the project to work on another thriller set amid international conflict, The Kingdom.
Just like the multimillion-selling series of games, the Splinter Cell movie will follow superspy Sam Fisher as he sneakily fights terrorism worldwide with the aid of really cool gadgets. The film is being executive-produced by Clancy and Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot.
