Justice League of America RPG announced
Warner Bros. Interactive to bring DC Comic to PlayStation 2 and Xboxes in fall 2006; developer's identity remains secret.
Last month, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced it had sold off the rights for a DC Comics-based PC massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Today, it announced it is working on a console action RPG inspired by one of DC's most popular series, Justice League of America. The game will be released for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in fall 2006.
Devoted to fighting crime and the odd alien invasion, the JLA is made up of DC's top superheroes, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and the Flash. The fictional organization first made its debut in 1960 in issue #28 of The Brave and The Bold, and has since been the subject of numerous comic book series. It has also inspired several animated television shows, including the Cartoon Network's Justice League Unlimited and the 1970-80s series the Super Friends, as well as a critically savaged made-for-TV movie. The comic was also the subject of several games, including a canceled Midway title for current-generation platforms, which is "totally unrelated to the current project," according to Warner Bros.
Though Warner Bros. did not reveal Justice League of America's developer--saying it will be done at a "later date"--the company did unmask a few of the game's details. First, it will include most of the JLA's superhero roster, including Martian Manhunter and Zatanna. As in the comics, each hero will have his or her own individual powers and fighting styles, although players will be able to customize their heroes' skills as they gain experience. Warner Bros. said the game would also feature destructible environments and a two-player co-op mode.
GameSpot will have more details on the newly revealed Justice League of America game as they are made public.
