EA touts '05-'06 mobile games lineup

Digital Bridges deal left behind as EA intends to develop its own mobile titles; Madden, Need for Speed, The Sims, Tiger Woods, and FIFA franchises to be tapped first.

Electronic Arts today unveiled the first of a total of 20 mobile games planned for release over the next two years. The video games monolith entered the mobile arena last year, and, in partnership with I-Play (then Digital Bridges), copublished Tiger Woods PGA Tour and FIFA Soccer. These upcoming titles, however, are the first that EA will produce internally.

Rankings based on NPD figures from 7/31/05 to 8/6/05

3D games slated for release are iterations of the publishing giant's most popular franchises. Madden NFL 2006, The Sims 2 Mobile, Need for Speed Underground 2, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2006, and EA Sports' FIFA Football 2006 will all feature polygonal graphics and real-world player rosters (where appropriate). EA's debut 2D titles will be Poppit!, Turbo 21, and Tri Peaks Solitaire, which are three casual games.

John Batter, VP and general manager of EA Mobile, expressed his confidence that EA will be able to parlay its market dominance to mobile. "The world of mobile gaming is about to explode!" Batter asserted in a statement.

GameSpot News will update this story with an interview with Batter shortly.
