He was once just a little green glob of clay. But soon Gumby will be green globs of pixels, thanks to a deal between Namco Hometek and the Premo Toy Co. Namco today announced that it has acquired the rights to publish games based on the bendable icon and his equally flexible pals. No specific titles or platforms for a Gumby game have been announced.

"Gumby and his friends have delighted generations of kids and adults on the small screen and through traditional toys," said Jeff Lujan, business director of Namco Hometek Inc. "We are very pleased that the creators of this wonderful property have entrusted Namco with this opportunity."

Gumby, created by Art Clokey, celebrates his 50th anniversary this year after appearing in his own television show and becoming a best-selling flexible figurine. "Our family is very excited to see Gumby make his debut in the interactive world," said Clokey.

The deal struck by Namco and Prema also grants Namco the right to use Gumby as a guest star in any of its other games. Given Namco's use of cameos in Soul Calibur 2 (Todd McFarlane's Spawn, and Nintendo's Link, of Legend of Zelda fame, made appearances), could a Gumby versus equine pal Pokey matchup in Soul Calibur 3 be far off?
