Neverwinter will undoubtedly have a devoted cult following in the years to come. At the core its action style game play is highly addictive and accessible to almost anyone. Combine that with the fact anyone who has an internet connection and a PC with the specs to play the game can because of it's Free to Play model it is sure to find its target audience. The classic RPG player will quickly judge the game on its very rinse and repeat quests and move on to the next game. However there will be those players that realize this game gives back as much as you put in. The leveling is very fast pace which works partially well when playing with others. It is easy to get to 60th level; which is good as you can quickly join your friends who have been playing for a while.
The real innovation and the driving factor for the cult following is the Foundry. Cryptic took a lesson from the 2002 BioWare RPG classic with the same name. Like the classic game that is still being played today. Cryptic realized that no amount of production value can ever compete with the creative works of the player. You want story it's there and it's only going to get better and better.
This game steps outside the "typical" MMO box and focuses less on the same repetitive game play that every other MMO does. Cryptic has instead focused on creating the tools to allow you to create and share unique experiences with your friends.
Word of mouth is by bar the far the most powerful form of marketing, and as the Foundry artists get better people who "subscribe to them" will keep coming back to play their campaigns for years to come.
While Neverwinter is chalked full of flaws, such as a poor inventory management, repetitive PvP levels, boring out of the box content, guild management, etc; none of them are game breaking and cause a halt to the fun. Most of these flaws will be fixed in patches and updates in the coming months. If you're looking for a quick deviation, you'll have fun but quickly become bored. However if you're looking for something that rewards you for stepping out of the amusement park line, you will find lots of unique experiences in Neverwinter.
