After playing through the original NWN twice before I got NWN Gold, I appreciate not having to run the updater everytime I loaded the game, just to make sure the latest patch was included. NWN Hordes of the Underdark installs over the top of NWN Gold just fine, also. The final boss fight in NWN Original Campaign was really quite difficult, particularly since the walkthrough hints misled me to believe that I had to knock out the praying lizards to defeat the Queen. Not so! I played through the game twice before I realized that I was relying too much on my overpowering half-orc henchman to fight my battles for me. I didn't gain enough XP and levels to fight the queen successfully until I started fighting my own battles more. Also, the Queen is a heavy magic user, so I recommend using Greater Dispel against her a LOT. I found it necessary to make certain that I kept my henchman alive throughout the final battle, and also to summon a major extra fighter (in my game, I used a Hound Archon) to finally beat the Queen. It was really frustrating to be forced to play through the final scenario so many times just to move on with the game, but it was worth it. Shadows of Undrentide was an interesting expansion, if not quite as long a story as I'd hoped. The choice of henchmen is much more limited, but there may be value in the limitation of choices. I found all the henchmen options in the Original Campaign to be too confusing, if not downright dibilitating at times. I think it's worthwhile to play through a segway mod between Undrentide and Hordes -- the Hall of Fame winner for that is The Nether Scrolls by PaperMonk.
