User Rating: 7.6 | MVP Baseball 2004 XBOX
I have always been a fan of baseball videogames, and as a result I anxiously awaited this years new arrivals. From the start, the reviews seemed to place MVP Baseball at the top of the list, however after picking up a copy I was left with mixed feelings. From the start I did not feel that the gameplay was noticeably better than World Series Baseball 2K3 (My favorite from last year). I was immediately disappointed that the rosters were only accurate as of January 15th. Needless to say, I was surprised to see A-Rod in a Rangers Jersey. I was also disappointed by the batting controls which only give the user the option to swing or bunt. There in no contact swing or power swing, just a swing. Plus, the base running controls were sloppy. Despite these short-comings, I do not feel that I wasted my money on this game. I have found the Dynasty mode to have great depth, and I was impressed that all of the AAA and AA teams were included in the game. For me, I have had a lot of fun playing the Dynasty Mode, and using the Manage option to get through all of my games. It is a lot of fun to Manage a major league team and its minor league teams through the seasons trying to meet the club goals, but when I actually want to play a game I put in ESPN Baseball.
